Been working for Moore Transport for 7 1/2 years. I've been doing the same runs for the most part for the last 4 years and making pretty good money. But Moore Transport apparently has had some problems. The CEO appears to want out from underneath the truck payments and maintenance. His idea to help his drivers out is to push them into a lease purchase program for any truck they want to drive. The other option is to become a Jack Cooper employee.

I'm turning 65 this year and I have no desire to start at the bottom of a union company, drive a piece of crap truck and do the newbie loads. Nor do I have any desire to become an owner operator. The benefits are totally useless to me as I will be applying for Medicare this year. Paying union dues makes no sense at this time of my life.

I've been working on a career in voice acting but I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to my job just yet. I guess I'll have no choice now. I've been driving these semis since 1980. I think I'm going to go the Uber route and stay home everyday and work on my new career.

Moore is offering his current employees a chance to lease a truck? is this lease to own or just a lease? Are they hiring new drivers who wanna lease? Being a former Union driver life wasn't so bad at the bottom of the board and in this current climate I thin it would still be the same. Dealers need these cars and units are all backed up every where. I honestly wouldn't be worried about being on the bottom. The loads are plentiful especially if you don't mind working..

Well I can't speak for the Moore Equipment as I've never worked over there, but maintenance as we all know is key to keeping a decent truck available. I know of several companies that have decent equipment. a lot of times its about attracting drivers with new trucks. Please believe when companies get rid of trucks they've made plenty of money with it then some; As Im sure you know because the trucks will have well over a million miles on them.. ( also having several drivers in equipment is hard on them)

What I was referring to was the deal JCT/ NAAT has going on. If you ever worked at a union car haul outfit you don't work yourself to death. They will not overload a truck and a majority of the time you will be home everyday or every other day, Unless you choose to go another route. Definitely off weekends or a 34 every week. Factor that into the amount of money, Health and welfare you will be saving towards retirement, its a freaking great deal.If you already have 401K and can contribute to a pension that just free money after your vested in the pension. Pensions are only as good as the employees who contribute to them, The more contributions the better and longer the life of the pension. I'm not saying you should indulge, but i wouldn't knock it until you tried it.. The amount of money you could save, in maintenance and fuel alone, plus pay into a pension and cadillac health care is worth the price of admission.. Unless you have plans to retire soon. Leasing a truck on with that kinda benefits to the owner/ Driver is worth it. JCT has the freight. But again this is my humble Opinion..

I also wouldn't be afraid of a Older truck, maintaining equipment is just a matter of doing your job as a owner/ driver and inspecting things. over time things will happen, but there are a lot of older trucks running around doing a great job. Keep it clean and fix it when need be..

    I appreciate your views.
I'm turning 65 in September and filing for Medicare. Its hard to believe. I remember my first truck being a 1974 GMC Astro.
I've been driving these rigs since 1980 and I've just had my share of all of it. I have a promising career ahead of me doing voice acting with one commercial to my credit already. I'm probably going to end up driving for Uber on the side while I'm working on that. I've just done all the bouncing up and down the interstate that I need to do. It was a lot different world when I got started that's for sure.
