I 24 in Tennessee. Monteagle headed South. There is a brake check at the top of the mountain. What am I supposed to do there? Do I have to pull in and pull on - adjust my slack adjusters? Does the DOT sit there and inspect my truck or what? I came up the North side of Monteagle 3 times with my trainers but never went down the South bound side. I went through there on Christmas day and pulled in, stopped at the red light and when it turned green went down the mountain. No one there but me and that's all I knew to do. No problems going down, delivered the load and now I'm home for a few days.
Thanks, Joe
Monteagle

Just pull in, and up to the signal lights. Then proceed on green. No one is actually there to make sure you do this.
While TN State Troopers aren't lurking around all the time. They will and have stopped trucks that don't pull through the check area. -
lol first of all I-24 is an East West Interstate and you would have been traveling Eastbound. Back in the day before self adjusting slack adjusters we would stop at the top and adjust our breaks...and every now and then the TN DOT does set up in that inspection station. BY ALL MEANS DO NOT RUN IT. pull in go to the lights then leave dont by pass it.

If you do need to adjust brakes, that's a good place. The Tn DOT sets up there but not like they used to. They were there a few weeks ago just observing, I waved and went on about my business. As already mentioned, don't run it.

In 1974 I was pulling for Refrigerated Transport and stopped at a little coup on top of a grade. An officer came out and asked me what engine and transmission I had. Then, he told me what should be my highest gear all the way to the bottom, no exceptions.
alds, Metallica88 and TravR1 Thank this. -
Thank you. I did right by stopping but had no idea what I was doing. I still have soooo much to learn.

Even us who have been driving since dirt learn something new...might be small but might save someone's life down the road.alds Thanks this. -
It's also a good place to get out and see if your trailer brake lines are in good shape. You don't want to start down a steep grade like that and find out you tore a hole in your line when you made a tight turn. Just look around to see that everything's where it's supposed to be..they're not punishing you, they're trying to do you a favor.

I'd stop and take a quick break and just check everything out. It's a chance to stretch my legs and know everything is good on the truck.
