I should have not read this post. Next morning my truck started doing it. Havent done it since, but im sure itll come back. Few questions
How much did new valve cost you
Did you remove fuel lines, or did you work around them
Was it difficult to restart, after replacement

they start doing it at 500k miles, at 600k miles the noise will come out without stopping.
the valve is $500-700 at dealers. plus if you break the connector which is easy breakable European style ####e - $35(pigtail connector) and one plastic tube from air compressor to engine block - $25 if your truck is EPA 10. I have found the valve very cheap on ebay. brand new for $350 . 5 hours to replace it . if you need info how to do it let me know.

You have to take the fuel pump out to get to it, so depending on how old the truck is you might want to just go ahead and replace that too while you're at it.

Here is one of Francisco Amaya's excellent videos on how to do it:
Detroit DD15 fuel quantity valve replacement.

no need to take fuel pump out . you need to remove fuel lines like in the video. There are 3 screws that must be removed to pull out the valve. 2 of them is easy to take off. the third one is hard . it's behind of bracket. special 2-2.5 inch (no longer, no shorter) T30 socket must be used to remove 3 screws.
