Trying to get a gauge on what owner/operators would want from a mobile tire repair service in west and south texas (preferred tires, response times , pricing etc)
What are you seeing and what would you like to see?

A fair price for a tire! Not feeling like I was made love to and not kissed!
We realize that there is a lot of cost involved in running a service like this, and are willing to pay somewhat of a premium for that service.
Had a friend in FL the other week, blew a steer, cost over 900.00 for the tire, (Not a premium tire, just a cheap one) and steel wheel. The guy traveled less than 25 miles from what I know.

obviously my first post was meant as a joke. I think most shops are charging .5 hr for changing a tire. if you charged $100 for a road side service call + .5hr for a tire change at 100per hour you would have $150 plus your tire cost of probably around 450 per tire + 10% markup on the tire $495. for a total of $645 service call +tax. this would be fair rate imo.

Seriously, I HATE having to call out a roadside repair for anything BUT I'm sure glad there is someone to call if I have a problem. My biggest gripes have been with reefer repair guys that advertise mobile service but it applys to tire guys as well. IF you advertise 24 hour mobile service, answer the dang phone 24 hours or get a service to answer for you and call me back! And don't tell me it's going to be 24 hours before you can get there - if you're too busy be honest and maybe even have a network of "competitors" that you can swap business referals with!
As far as price goes, you need to charge a fair price for you and for your customer. I sure wouldn't leave the house at midnight to go change a tire for the same price I'd do it for at noon so I think it's fair to charge accordingly. Same with a mileage or trip charge - you need to cover your cost both ways, pay your employee (or self), and make a profit so charge accordingly. I think guys get upset when they have to pay double the already marked up price for a tire and then pay $200 road call for 30 mile trip. Anyway just venting on some of this but there is definitely a need for a good road service in some areas of our fair state. By the way, carry mudflaps, brake cans, airline repair kit, other minor mechanical and wiring stuff on your truck. Extra money for you and if someone needs it then it's just another customer service feather in your cap. -
Thanks to all who responded. Have done more research since the last post and all was helpful. Yet another question though....
I do know that loads of things contribute to the need for a new tire, tire change etc.
Assuming the best, is there a ballpark average number of miles you can expect from drive tires, steer tires, and trailer tires pulling crude , water , and dump trailers on caliche roads in Texas?
In other words , is it 30k , 40k, less more? ?
thanks again
