So I just go a call today about a position I applied for. The company is Milky Way and as the title implies, it is milk. I've seen their trucks on the road and I know they pull a rocky mt double configuration. It is all day cab which means it is local or regional with a hotel lay over.

I have never pulled a tanker before. Like most of you guys, I got the endorsement. I assume they don't have baffles and bulkheads for sanitary reasons, and my trailer(s) will all be smooth bore tankers.

I have about 4 years of pulling doubles and triples... Am I in over my head if I take this? I am in Montana... and yes, to spice things up we are halfway into our ice road season.

Aside from the above, does anyone have any insight on pay and benefits? Also working hours, set routes, start time, and equipment?

Mr Runner , look at this way , people are driving their trucks now. Are they better then you , most likely not. Will tell you smooth bore tanks , you have to be smooth with. Never drove tank on the road , but did off road . Running over basketball size rocks gets fun .

Well their milk haulers so it's 24/7 with them. I am not sure what they have going on in Montana. On the west coast here they are the primary milk haulers and they have several styles of routes.

They have shine new equipment, mostly small engine Crapcadias with some Petes, almost all doubles. Safety record is not too shabby: https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Carrier/254079/CompleteProfile.aspx

I few guys I work with used to run with them when they were union. They are not union now. I think they start in the $19-20 and hour range range with a safety bonus of like $.80 - not sure. All the guys I work with are collecting a pension from the teamsters and complain how they cut out the pension and stiffed them with a crappy 401K at LTI.

Most of the guys I work with say things went down hill fast after the union left. That might be true. I know their safety stat scores when sky high at one time. Story that I heard, and also read here, was that their was some crap manager that kind ran the company and few guys into the ground. Do I know that for sure - no. But read it here and heard it from the guys I work with - so take it for what it is. That manager was supposedly canned for filling up his pick-up on the company dime.

IDK what is happening there now but seeing how safety stat scores have come down, it might not be a bad place to work.

I ran a tanker before I came to ltl. Really there isn't much to it. Just slow down for turns and be smooth. If you slam the brakes especially with a smooth bore, you will feel it. Just be mindful that load is always splashing around. It is almost unnoticeable when full or domed out. Half full is the worst and most dangerous because you still have a lot of weight but now it has room to move. Good luck.

Lots of turnover last I heard. Trucks with lots of safety alarms. Idaho Milk Products looks like a better bet.

Sorry, been a few months and can't recall. Likely because it was the usual stuff like pay, management, and equipment. Stop by a few dairy loading places where they go and ask some drivers, the posts above tell the background.

I applied with them and got a call back. Said they’d go over my experience and call me back for an interview if they felt it was enough. I’ve got almost 8 years in a hazmat tank. Guess I wasn’t qualified for an interview?
