The military work Ive done is two different kinds. Either US Military Depot to Depot or Depot to export port. OR... wartime freight to port for example to support Korea in 1990's prior to the dear leader dropping dead of a heart attack.

There is no contact anything. Dispatcher tells you to say be in Summit PA Depot at 6 am ready to take a box of military something to another depot or to export in Baltimore Seaport to the ship. Nothing fancy or elaborate.

In fact as a company driver you don't do anything you are NOT told to do by dispatcher. They take care of all that stuff for you. Your job is to obey and be there to handle the load you may know nothing about.

Thats the extent of my experience. When spouse (Marine Corps 90's Sgt) was with me all her Vet status did was take care of the tuition GI bill and allow FFE to show preferential hiring and pretty much hired her instantly to join me as a team.

And that's all. Dispatcher got to tell us what to do when empty. We don't contact anything.

I’ve also done military base to base freight or base to port. I don’t do it often because generally (some exceptions) the pay is crap.

There is contracted freight that can pay good but it’s rare and hard to get. The only one I heard of is a team hauling specialty stuff in a conestoga type trailer with hazmat and they are forbidden to stop between bases. The pay still isn’t even good enough to warrant the requirements.

Thank you kindly. I will say this once. Of all the people ive met it had to be this one I married. And even though we are no longer married she has shown herself to be a battle buddy in many different ways, particularly with my major surgery and recovery ongoing. I am inclined to think without her it would have been much harder. We have had 14 years cancer surviving and we may o r may not have her before too long. But I choose to be positive and enjoy the time with her while we can. (And vice versa)

You can file your own tender and specify what type of trailer you have. I worked for a company that had 3 local owner operators that would pick up partial loads ans bring them to the warehouse. A long haul truck would come in and load 2 or 3 partials being dispacted to the farthest spot with one or two drops. It worked out great. Everyone was making good money until one day a federal inspector came in and closed the company down, siezed all the owners assests ( including personal). Myself and the other two local's took our trucks home every night and escaped having our trucks impounded. This happened in 1990. I was operating the 59 Peterbilt pictured in my avatar.
