what is average all mile rates? I'm around $2.10-$2.20 a mile. Talked to a broker that wants me to come to him and he said he will get me more miles but less money per mile. He is saying $1.80-$1.90. Need advise since I'm new to flatbed.

    Is that a real question?

Work harder for less.... if you don't know the answer bc you're new to this..?

Yes it's a real question or I wouldn't have asked it. I have a driver/partner that wants to try another broker, I talked to said broker and that's the outcome of conversation we had. He said he runs 20 o/o and all make good money and are happy with the $1.80 mile number. I personally don't think it's good but partner wants to try. Looking for suggestions

No: don't work more at a lower rate to make more money. You have to have a lot more assets to spread that across for it to work. You have 2 trucks: you work for the most money you can get.

And ditch your partner: if you have a partner, 2 trucks, and don't do any of the driving, and are talking $$ like you're talking... you have too many chiefs for the amount of Indians.

Ok thank you. That's what I was thinking. I think he as the driver is looking at it as more for money and I'm looking at it from the business side and to me more miles for less means no money for breakdowns when they happen.

for example every mile I run it cost me $.90 a mile. That's without paying me anything. So figure out your per mile to run cost.
If a truck runs 60 miles a hour for $.15 its comes to $9.00
    So $.20 times 60 is $12.00 a hour
How many miles will you be running? Divide that by 60 miles per hour (example only) to get a average hours per week and times that by$.20.
This is how much money you will lose with more wear and tear on your truck.
I make a small profit at $1.50 a mile and only do that to get home or to a better paying area.
Is there any other dispatch fees. My dispatcher charges 10% to find me loads. Her authority.

I have 2 drivers and two trucks and trailers, all paid for, not new trucks but good running trucks, 12.7 Detroit and N14. Like I said wanting suggestions on miles vs pay. Some like more gross even if pay per mile is lower. But to me that's how you go out of business

    Airborne Thanks this.
