These guys serviced my truck when it broke down. Flashers weren't working on front or back. It took them over 3 days to have it fixed and then they said "its fixed" handed me my keys and sent me on my way. Of course I did a pre-trip on it right away and found that now headlight marker lights were not working!
I'm furious at this time and called my dispatcher and let him know. I went back in there and they tinkered with the truck for another 2 hours. I found out that they broke one of the tabs on headlight cover (back on headlight) and then just used a wood screw to hold it in place (thanks a lot MHC Kenworth!)
They never let me know progress of repair and I had to constantly come down from drivers lounge and check on them what's been done so far. They also never let me know when they were done for the day and mechanic that was working on it left for the day (even though its supposedly a 24hr shop) I then walked over to nearby motel and got a room for the night.
I wouldn't go there and was told to go there by company I work for so I had no other choice.
If you get sent there for some reason be prepared for very bad customer service and you can spend several days there for a simple repair. Mechanics there are not very knowledgeable and will just try to throw parts at your truck trying to fix it. Beware of these idiots and take your truck elsewhere if you can.

I won't go to any of the "big shops''. For some of the same reasons you have stated above.
I am an o/o and try to have all the parts and tools with me so I can go to a parking lot and fix it, if not I will look for a small shop that will give me access to watch them or even rent me a bay and shower.
I have had Napa and Cummins in Little Rock deliver parts to me at the truck stops.
I had a brake chamber go bad not to long ago, went to Petro in W. Memphis and they told me 6 hours and $300.00 to fix it. I stopped being lazy and got a chamber from under my bunk and replaced it in their parking lot. Lol

Im company driver so not much I can do. I already replace lights on truck/trailers as needed cause company wants me to go to truck stop to have it done. Im not sitting at truck stop for 2hrs to have a light bulb changed out on trailer.
