Hi to all of you,
I am wanting to obtain my CDL, and want to work for Prime in order to get my first year of experience under my belt, I will be joining some family in Missouri in order to do this, but I do not want to do Primes PSD program because I can't really afford to go a month with no income and want to obtain my CDL on my own. I have Metro CDL school as an option, but someone who went there over 10 years ago told me that some companies will not hire out of certain CDL school. Has anyone attended this school or have any experience with a company turning down a certificate from a certain school? I certainly don't wanna waste my time or money if this is the case and I'd rather go the hard route and wait a few months while I save some money to make it possible to do the PSD program.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

How long is the school. Is the school 160 hrs. or is it that 40 hrs. school I've heard about?
Some companies are picky and some aren't. -

160 hrs. is what most companies want, so that's ok.
Call the companies you're interested in and ask if they hire from that school.
I gave you a list on your other thread of some that hire from South Florida.
Does the school placement office have a list of companies they place drivers with?
Since you're planning to move to Missouri later, I recommend you go with a company that does coast to coast running because that looks good when you apply for Prime. Companies prefer drivers with all weather/all terrain experience.
Trailiner Corp. and Wil-Trans are also in Springfield,MO.

The school actually did not offer any placement options from what I saw, they just had a service that helped with job search. I actually would relocate to Missouri upon gaining my CDL so my plan was to apply to prime straight off the bat. Thank you for the info, I will give one of Primes recruiters a call tomorrow to see what their take on it is.

Once you arrive in Missouri, you'll have to change your cdl to a Missouri cdl. Probably use your relatives address. Ask the recruiter about this. Tell him you're moving to Missouri.
Sometimes if you're too far off a regular freight lane, Prime may want you to lease a truck. Having a Missouri address will keep this option off the table.LargeWing Thanks this. -

@Chinatown the program, I had originally discussed with metro won't give me the 160 required hours, they want twice the amount. Honestly, after being at metro for a class I decided against it, they are extremely unorganized, some of the instructors have no clue what they are doing and there is no accountability for the students whatsoever. It looks like I will try to go with Sheridan vocational college in Broward and do their 320 hour course. It's gonna take approximately 14 weeks but I would rather go thru the proper training than return to that mess of a CDL mill. Not to mention, the equipment there is extremely tired, this morning one of the trucks used for parallel parking wasn't starting it took them 3 hours to get it up and running, the other 2 trucks used for offset and straightline backing were in horrible shape, the gear shifter on one of them didn't even have the pattern on it and then the instructor took forever and seemed unwilling to help anyone out. I recommend to anyone considering this metro CDL to stay far away from there if they actually want to learn anything and feel comfortable in a truck.

You plan to use your relatives address in north Florida?
Trucking companies go by the address on your cdl and job application.
