I know a couple guys that have been running this system for a little while now with very good results. even one guy that got a 1/2 bolt threw the tread of the tire and the system kept the air pressure up in the tire until he was able to get into a service station. I want to have this system installed on a belly dump trailer that i have with super singles. i was surprised that none of the places where i live have ever installed one of these before. all but one of them told me that they did not even want to try it. i did finally find a shop where i live that although they have never done they were interested in doing it, told them to look into it and get back to me. they checked into it and called me back and said they are interested in doing it said the kit is a bit over 900 and then looking at about 500 for installation. this is about the same as i was quoted from a guy a few hundred miles away that has done quite a few of them. so the price seems fair.

would you be concerned about having a shop install the system that has never done one before? or would you take your truck to the place 400 miles round trip outta your way to have it done for the same price? the installation doesn't look complicated to install from what i have found looking online i think any competent mechanic should be able to do it.

how many of you running the system what are your thoughts on it?

only a couple people i know have it on there trailers and its been trouble free for them so i cant see not running it with wide based tires running in puncture prone area's.

what psi should i have them set the system to for the super single trailer tires? iv been running them at 95 psi so far not really sure what the ideal psi would be though

I have this system on a couple trailers and love it,personally I would take it to a shop that has done them before.

FWIW, Kevin Rutherford says to run them at 130 psi.

130psi my ###. maybe if you want the center of your tires to be bald while the outside has never even touched the road. the system can only supply 120psi as it supply off your truck air. let alone i think that would be above the max tire inflation recommended by the manufacture.

looking for psi for max tire life and durability more than trying to squeeze a extra .005mpg out

Get it with the alert for high axle tempature. Only a few bucks more. Hardest part of the job is drilling the spindles.

Maverick runs this system on its trucks, and I'd have to say overall it works pretty well and does a good job. There are many drivers who would've been stuck waiting on a repair truck in the side of the road if they didn't have the system - it's nice to be able to keep rolling to a service station, especially since everyone charges an arm and a leg for roadside service nowadays.

The only flaw Ive noticed in the system is that the tire pressure readouts in the cab are not always 100% accurate, they can be off by a bit. Not by a whole lot, but it can be touchy at times, especially in cold weather, it likes to set of an alarm for pressure when in reality your pressure is fine.

Aside from that very minor issue, I think it's well worth the money. It'll pay for itself fairly quickly I would think. I know if I went out and bought my own truck and trailer, I'd definitely get it installed.

i don't think the system im looking at will have dash indicators but rather a light on the trailer that comes on to alert you when the system is adding air to a tire.

did not know a axle temp indicator was available with this system when i can talk again (just had some dental work done today) ill inquire about that.

It's an option. The system on my trailers do a rapid blink when the tempature exceeds X. Pretty sure the new meritor system will also release pressure if too high. If not ask for the option. Only way to keep the hot pressure right. Otherwise on the below 0 days it will over-inflate the tires.

i am going to go ahead and let the local shop that has never done it give it a shot. after several conversations with them i feel confident in letting them do it. they are excited about adding these retro fits into there list of services offered they feel confident in completing the task and say they will stand behind there work. then being as no other shops in Bismarck nd even wanted to attempt it they would be the only ones in 200 miles that is doing them. so they seem more excited to do it than i am to get the system put on.

its funny how you talk to some places and there attitude is well we have never done it so we don't even want to try. and then these guys the first time i talked to them about it. basically said well if it can be done we can do it and then they looked into it. called meritor as well as some shops outside the area that have done them found out what all is involved in doing it and then called me back the same day.

They were always nice on the company trailers I used to pull would like to have them on my trailer now. Didn't know it was that cheap to do.
