I worked for Menards for 4 years. I don't disagree that they are cheap, however, our store manager made $125,000 a year, assistants $60,000-$80,000 a year.

I worked for Menards for 4 years from 2006-2010 as a team member. I started out by making $8.75 hr, left at $10.40 hr. I don't like the company, they are cheap, and screwed me out of full-time in 2007 when they had promised it to me. Btw I'm not a complainer, I give companies the benefit of the doubt, and I don't think every company is out to screw me. I finally got offered full-time in 2009 but turned it down since I worked 2 other part-time jobs and had getting a cdl set on my mind as soon as I turned 21.
The good thing about Menards is they paid an extra $2.50 hr on the weekends so I always volunteered to work them. Plus the ips was ok. for the year of 2009 my ips was at 7.5% , so when you include the weekend pay and ips, my average hourly was around $12.00-$12.25 hr.
I agree that you can definately do better than Menards, but as long as you're happy, that's what matters. I worked for Roehl for 4 months otr and got a local job working at Pepsi. I worked there for a year and a half until the 1 hour drive to Chicago and 1.5-2 hour drive home got to me, so I switched jobs. I've been working for DLI for the last 2 and a half years and love it. I made 55k last year, should make 58k this year. I work between 40-44 hours a week. Money wise, things could definately be better, but I'm happy here and that is all that matters. I remember being otr for that short time, I would've gladly accepted a local job for $30,000 a year, that's how much I hated otr. Last year Menards finally gave a company wide pay raise. My brother who is a yard horse out of the Plano DC got a $2 hr raise, he also about once a week delivers to job sites. They wanted to give him .32 a mile and he said no way. So, he just stays on the clock hourly and they give him stop pay in addition.
Your pay at .365 base isn't terrible when you add all the other pay to it. Some people crapping over you are probably just jealous that you're local and they're not. Keep getting that experience, I got 4+ years in and can essentially go wherever I want.. Keep on truckin!Canned Spam Thanks this. -
Yeah don't forget stop and local pay in that. It's pretty hard for me not to make 200 a day. I don't consider that to be too bad. Should be getting my profit sharing and 5k dollar safety bonus in February. Forgot to mention that 2 weeks ago now they turned all the trucks up to 66 mph.

How often do you get the safety bonus? What's the pay for new drivers starting out?

As far as your first comments go, I partially agree, but even Menards isn't that shady to take pay away from a satisfied employee. A year and change ago I made some very positive comments plus a thread about my company. Soon after my superviser told me that they saw the comments of mine as well as another drivers.. A couple months later I got a 5% pay increase. They said they reevaluated my route and increased it. In two weeks they are adding a stop to my route that is only 7 miles out of the way, it'll add roughly 1.5 hours to my week. They will increase my salary as a result, I'm due about $35 for the work, but we will see if they still like me and give me more. Lol
it's nice to see someone on here that is so positive, and someone who is putting the work in without complaining.HomeTownHauler and Lonesome Thank this. -
Pay is .30 on days and .35 on nights. I an not too worried about menards finding this. They don't even use dac. Safety bonus is yearly. The pay is off the odometer.

GoldenFan I forgot to mention if you have previous experience they give you up to .035/mile more. So .335 on days and .385 on nights.

I drove for a regional carrier in Michigan for a year. Menards was one of their 5 or 6 major, long-time customers and I got to see 3 of their DC's regularly and one sporadically. I did enjoy working with their store crews, mostly in Michigan and Wisconsin. The dock crews were efficient and friendly most of the time. Of course, there were those times when they were swamped, short-handed, or the dock was jammed with product and they could get a bit surly, but for the most part, they were among the most pleasant store personnel to deal with...as long as the driver remembers NEVER to break the seal, no matter what they say! I tried to help them out on nasty, snowy night while they were jumping down off the dock...never again!
