I always read in posts about the "Mega" trucking companies.

Being a newbie, could someone tell me who exactly are the mega trucking companies.

These are the mega companies that train student drivers. Four of these companies are notorious on this site and have received numerous bad reviews despite companies' prohibition on social media badmouthing. There are plenty of companies that are classified as a mega carrier, but they run far less trucks than these companies.

On this site the definition of a mega carrier is more than just trucks. It is a large company that runs 500 to 1000 + trucks
and they are more worried about the trucks than they are about the people who operate them. The ones who operate them are merely a number since dispatchers usually manage at least 75 to 100 drivers. Most of these companies don't offer a pension or a 100% 401k match. Some do offer paid time off but it is usually not company wide and just in certain divisions. As far as pay? It really varies because a mega is pretty much like 10 smaller companies combined and everybody doesn't have that same great load planner or on that great dedicated account that is more profitable per truck than otr for hire trucks. $800 a week net as a solo company driver with a mega carrier is good money. Also, everybody is not getting the same rate at one company or the same equipment . Drivers are subjected to driver facing cameras that record what you do, electronic logs with GPS that can show when you stopped and where. Mega carriers pretty much suck in general!
