So two months ago I renewed my medical card but I didn’t go to the dmv to submit it . I honestly didn’t know I had to do that . So my CDL was downgraded .

will I be able to go up there and show them that I did in fact renew my medical card just failed to submit it and get my CDL privileges back or will I have to re test and all that. I am in Texas

Go to the office in person and they’ll reinstate it. You’re supposed to be able to mail it in but DPS seems to have a pattern of saying they didn’t receive it.

Ideally, when your examiner enters your updated info into the federal system, the DMV should see it, as well. Unfortunately, we’re functioning in an imperfect world. When you go to the DMV, they’ll be able to pull up your info in the federal system, verify it was done, and remove the restriction. I just did mine, left the examiner’s office, and went straight to the DMV to ensure it was completed. It’s a shame we have to deal with such incompetence.

Just submit the DOT Medical to the state and they will reinstate your CDL. States have their own procedure so the only answers that help you are about your state. Just ask the state. Some states only accept the DOT Medical paperwork delivered to the drivers license office. Other states allow snailmail, fax, email, in-person, etc. Your state has the info online, probably. Follow that procedure EXACTLY and get proof they have your updated DOT medical card and keep a picture of that written proof. DONT TAKE ANYONES WORD YOU ARE GOOD TO GO. If it's not written proof, you can't prove the state has it. My state said "we have your newest medical card" over the phone and then 15 days later sent me a letter saying my CDL was downgraded for not submitting the form I gave them.

I don’t know how it works in Texas, but here in Arkansas you can snail mail it, fax it, upload it online or go in person. I upload mine online and print the confirmation. I’ll receive a receipt in the mail, usually within a week.

p.s. I’ve never been asked for it. Apparently, the DOT folk around here can see it online if they want.

It was only a couple days past due, but realized my CDL got demoted because the tiny date on the corner was blocked by a staple lol. I just resubmitted a new copy online and made a phone call. CDL reinstated in 15 minutes

    This was in Kentucky
