Hershey load into Mclane San bernadino Ca, checked in at 1600, appt at 1700, bump dock at 1715, am empty and out the gate at 1830. They did not want to pay detention pay, and Hershey pays the lumpers. Had 5 of them breaking down the load.

Same thing at Mclane in Lubbock TX. less than 2 hours to unload, although it was an hour after my appointment time before I bumped the dock.

Maybe we're doing something wrong? I've been to those very same McLane's and they are ALL PITA. But then I have into places that other drivers had nothing but issues with, and been in and out in no time. ???

I think I've figured out that Fred Meyer and SuperValu DCs hate Central Ref drivers... always on time and the very last to leave... and thats after everyone else has been gone for more than an hour.

No you are doing nothing wrong....

The rest of the story, Hershey Loads are high priority at all mclanes and must be unloaded in 2 hours. Hershey is paying the lumpers directly, and charge the lumping service for any detention time the carrier charges. As I said, there were 5 lumpers breaking down my candy load. That means there were 4 trucks sitting not being unloaded.

Now when I take anything else into a Mclane, it is a PITA, 6 to 8 hours, and $200 or more to unload. And if you are taking frozen in, even longer

We have the same deal when taking Hershey loads into McClane in Northfield,MN. Usually in and out in an hour or less. We don't even have to wait for them to break it down, count it, or check it in.

Welcome to the world of food distributors. If you haven't realized it yet (pack a lunch and probably dinner) no pun intended .Oh yah, and bring a wad of cash for lumpers if you need to. If you are looking for expediency at a food distribution warehouse you are probably inexperienced (not your fault) and in need of some good reading material, a long nap, or satellite TV and probably all of the above. Everything that is involved in your shipment has to be sorted and segregated before you leave so that they can verify the accuracy of the shipment unless it's something easy like a whole trailer of the same product. Unless you've actually broken down "mixed shipments" of products, (which I have), you won't really understand what the heck is taking them soooo long!. Don't be dismayed, just think of it as a weekend in a sheet metal box and make the best of it. If you're having H.O.S. problems and are worried about it, contact your safety department . They probably won't care, but when push comes to shove and you need to sue somebody at least your conscience will be clear. :biggrin_25520:

I work at mclane as a driver, but got my start on the yard, I remember my supervisor getting on the radio jumping my butt to move a trailer out of a door so the hershey load could get in and get OUT!!! He later explained to me that they (I guess the carrier?) were charging us so much an hr from the time that truck passed the security gate!! Hershey is priority at mclane!!! I know this now!!

mclane in san diego,ca took 6 hrs but they put down only 2 hrs on the bills so that they wouldn't have to pay detention.
