Hi all, just passed my road test with them last weekend, completed the hair and drug test and just have the strength test left to do this week. Should be giving my current job a notice after the holiday. I wanted to know if anyone has any updated or recent information about this particular location. So far from what I seen the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere there is laid back with the drivers I met. I know its back breaking work, pops and I used to deliver to them back in the day and I seen them plenty of times snake there way through gas stations and Walgreens so it won't be cake. I live 45 minutes away from the place and its the only apprehension that I have, any word drivers?

You are right to be concerned about the commuting time. If you live in Orlando it's probably going to be over 45 minutes, specially the times when you have to be there between 5 and 7, traffic on John Young Parkway between 192 and Pleasant Hill is just ridiculous. That's going to eat into your supposed 10 hours of sleep so you need to be very disciplined about going to bed as soon as you get home, day or night.

The problem my husband had was let's say you start at 2 am. You get up at midnight and leave the house at 1am, come back home at about 4 to 5pm to eat and sleep and be up again at midnight (assuming there's no traffic incident on JYP, otherwise you're screwed). You do that for a few days, but the day after you start at 5pm. It's hard to sleep during the day (for him) because you are well rested, but then you start at 5 and by midnight you're dying.

He quit during training and I'm happy he did, for him it wasn't worth it. BUT.... some people can do it, some have been doing it for decades and like it and the money is definitely really good. Hope that's your case if you actually start with them.

Oh! and watch your speed in that area, cops love it, and you can have a close encounter with an undercover in any kind of vehicle. I saw a cargo van recently, with ladder on top and everything.

I live right down the street from UCF so luckily the 417 is just 2 minutes away and I take that all the way down to Vineland and then take Poinciana blvd down, so I haven't really had to deal with many lights or traffic. I know a guy who works there currently and he told me usually its 4 on 3 off. The extra board might be a little tough but he's a driver himself and said he can put in word with the other drivers and hopefully that will help me get some stable routes. As it sits at my current job I still have a jacked up sleep schedule and I'm driving 500-600 mile trips every other day with some 300 mile trips in between as a "local" driver. I can't stay in hotels and layover plus I drive a daycab so I am constantly rushing to get back home barely making it legal on the logs. I rather sacrifice and put in more physical work but make more than double what I am making now and have benefits start day one. With only 6 months in the industry I think this is a great opportunity for me and a good resume stuffer/experience getter. Thanks for the reply! Yes cops looooove to hide around there and make Osceola co some money, I definitely noticed that.

Just trying to get general knowledge or any insight on the place, more or less how it really is.

Thanks man, I appreciate the heads up you gave me with the other places.

    Gitana Thanks this.

I just talked to a friend that delivered there yesterday. This place is right next to the Lowes DC, right?

If it doesn't work out Gordon Foodservice is on Central Florida Parkway, just down the street from me.

Yup, its near Lowes. I have kept GFS in mind, seems like they are opening more and more stores in my area so I am sure they will need help soon.

Thanks man, I keep hearing nothing but good things about this place from former and current drivers. I'm 25 so while I still have a back and some legs I am gonna give it a shot. I know they also send you to school to get your cdl if you don't have one and are a dock worker or driver helper. Have you considered driving?

You can do it and keep them, just be very, very careful. The guy who was training my hubs had been there for decades. And you're right, the only bad thing I've heard about them is about how brutal the physical work is, other than that it seems to be a very nice place.

I've thought about it but sysco doesn't offer the Cdl training anymore and don't have time to do on own with work and all. No stranger to hard work been in warehouse since I turned 18 n graduated high school will be 26 next month. That's y I've been thinking about driving easier to do that longer then selecting long term
