Basically, yes, and electric powered supercharger. A turbo and a supercharger are essentially the same thing, they just go about it differently. There are even belt driven superchargers that are essentially regular turbos like anyone would put on a exhaust, just they only have the compressor side. It is has the same turbine compressor as any exhaust driven turbo. Procharger is a brand that does this.....

The one on the OPOC engine is similar, except it is driven by electric motor instead of belt or exhaust.

Could be. I know that Eco Motors (same company Navistar was working with) completed a deal not long ago with Zhongding Power in China to build OPOC engines, with an initial production rate of 150,000 units a year. That is on top of the deal that was mentioned in the article you reference.

It is a very viable concept and solution. Not really all that new, just brought up into the 21st century. Problem is, American OEM's are really not as forward thinking today as they have been in the hey day or American ingenuity.

Even engines using E85 ethanol are out doing diesels. Cummins has a 2.8L E85 inline 4 engine, ready for full production, that puts out similar torque as a new 6.2L ecotec V8 GM engine, but reaches full torque at near 2000 RPM. Ricardo has a 3.2L V6 E85 engine that matches the 6.6L Dmax diesel in HP, Torque, and fuel economy. And the list goes on and on. Even your article link, there was another link buried in it that was talking about a gasoline heavy engine for trucks that busts the 50% efficiency ceiling by several percent. And does it on less displacement.

I did spend some time last night on Google and You tube to learn more about that engine. Pretty neat concept. With the way Maxxforce fell on it's face and we have been stuck with aftermath, I would be open to new designs, LOL!

I've been reading the threads on the MaxForce. I just bought a 2012 7600 TA Carrier with the MF13 in it. It does not have DEF, but has DPF. It comes with a factory warranty that expires in OCT 18, and I have the option of buying a 24month warranty, that will kick in when that one expires. For a 2yr warranty on the engine, after treatment, and external boltons, I am looking at $6225.00 . Adding the trans and rears would be extra, but in 30 years of driving, I've had one splitter go out, but no trans problems and no rear end problems, so I'm not inclined to add them. It's got a Eaton Fuller 10sp in it.
I'd appreciate any suggestions as to things to watch for, or maintenance that must be kept up, to help it last as long as possible. ;-)
    Thanks!

I would only buy a genuine Navistar warranty. Any extended warranty provided by a third party outside of Navistar is more like a mechanical insurance policy. We experience lots of trouble with them. They demand impossible to provide service history documentation and expect a lot of unnecessary testing until they find an excuse to deny their warranty when you do encounter a problem. Nothing but a fight and takes forever for us to get paid or repair approval. During all this time your truck is held hostage or in limbo until someone lets us fix it or we get paid.

  9. I've been running a 09 work star deck truck with maxforce 10 motor. I gotta say it isn't bad at all. Has an Allison 6 speed and 30 foot deck . Starts good every morning... we load the #### out of it ( I work for a rebar yard) it always makes it to the top of any hill and gets great milage. We had it deleted long ago bit it hasn't really given any issues
