Whats up guys, question I understand you can register over the trucks gcwr, what are the laws on this though just how much over the gcwr can you register for, I saw a guy said he registered for 40,000 lbs.

There's no laws on this that I know of. You can register it for whatever you want. You could tag it for 80k like a big truck if you felt like it. What you can't do, is go over the manufacturers rating on any axle/tire on the truck and trailer.

Cool thanks for your response, this should probably be another thread but if you don't mind, on a ram 4500 how much can you safely tow with a gooseneck, trailer+load? Thanks.

You could probably Google your specific year to find out but that number gets largely ignored in the hotshot world. For example, I have a '04 Dodge Ram 3500 and, as best I can tell, the towing capacity for that year with an auto was 9,450lbs. That's ridiculous, my trailer alone weighs most of that number. I'm usually pulling between 12-20k. Some people go higher than that, but that's plenty for my truck. I've never seen or heard of DOT using a trucks towing capacity in any way. They're concerned with axle rating and if they're especially nitpicky, tire rating but that's about it. The key is, its not what you can pull, its what you can stop.

Are those last numbers you gave me including the trailer?

And yes I googled the numbers and I find it hard to believe the gcwr of an f450 is only 26-28k, that's why I am looking for real world numbers.

Yes. My truck and trailer are a bit under 17k and I don't haul anything over 13k.

My truck is rated to tow approximately 30,000, my truck with cargo and extra fuel tank weighs almost 9,000, I registered for 40,000. But I'll never let it get that high and the heaviest I tow is 25,000 and that's not very often.
