To make a long story shorter my husband got his CDL through a school and he is not happy with the school or the whole experience. The school has lied, withheld information, etc. It has just been a disappointing experience. He is on the road now with an instructor but he is seriously considering applying to Maverick. I checked out their website, liked what I read, found a youtube video, liked what I saw, and have seen what others have said on here. With the school he's currently at they had first told him his first week of training on the road he could request home time and within 2 weeks he'd be able to come home...once he got ready to go on the road they said during his first Phase 1 training and Phase 2 he could not come home. On his way up he had gotten stuck in Denver due to snow along with about 30 other students, so they had to get hotel rooms and the school said they would be reimbursed when they got to school and once they got there they said they would be reimbursed once they started driving. Other students have said they didn't get paid on time and other things the school either lied about or failed to mention. So we aren't very happy. Maverick, to me, sounds like a fantastic company and I LOVE the sound of home time lol. Can anyone who works for Maverick or has experience with them add anything? On one post someone who was going there for training said that while you are in training and on the road they try to let you go home every weekend and if not, they put you in a motel? I'm assuming maverick pays for the hotel and it isn't coming out of the student's pocket? Students do not stay in the truck on weekends? My husband is currently stuck in the truck at a truck stop in las vegas while his instructor gets to go home lol.

I didn't go out with a trainer, but everyone I know that did said they either got home or stayed in a motel on Maverick's dime. Note, they said they got home or stayed in a motel, but I don't remember ever hearing the 'every weekend" part. It depends on which division you're in.

I'm not certain how it works during training as to how they pair you up. I'd ASSUME you'd be placed with someone in the same division as you were hired for. Where you live is also going to have a major impact on how often you get home. Maverick isn't perfect, and I have my issues with them, but they won't lie to you.

What CDL school?? Is it a company acadamy (i.e.-Swift or PAM/USA Driver Solutions)?? Is he learning Flatbed or driving a van?? If he is interested in Maverick, is he wanting to do Flatbed, Glass, or TCD (Reefer/Dry Van)?? I would say that if he HAS his CDL now, and wants to be a Maverick, he needs to apply ASAP, as the applicant line is pretty big here. It can take a while to get through the application process, and our company is very very picky on who it brings in to orientation. If he is wanting to pull a skateboard or do glass, then HE WILL NEED to go out with a trainer after he goes thru the barn (Load securement training after orientation). If his trainer lives like within 150 miles of his home, he can go home during the weekend hometime that his trainer gets. TCD freight is "hands free." LOL. If he wants "Hands free" then he does not want to do flat or glass. Maverick re-imburses up to $3000 for CDL school last I knew, that is the program that they have me on now. Read JimTheHut's thread called "HEADING FOR LITTLE ROCK" for a two year+ up to the day running story of a Maverick flatbedder's experience from the start. Very highly recommended. AND, if he wants to do glass, add RazorRange's thread recently started called "My Maverick Experience", it too is from day one up to today from a Glass Hauler's perspective. The TCD guys get on here once in a while, and there are a few threads in here about their experiences also.

He is with CR England. They sent him to their school, Premier Trucking I believe, in Salt lake City. He's in Vegas now, heading to Spanish Fork Utah tomorrow, then New Mexico and then possibly Memphis. he'll be going all over. We live in Arkansas.

That premier trucking is England's school...it's a scam...

he should apply to maverick ASAP and as soon as he obtains his cdl he should make a split for maverick...

It will not get any better with England..but much worse.

I applied at maverick last year and they seem like a good company and they have some good information that made me almost go. The reason why I decided to not go was I wanted to be home most weekends and only way I could do that was to do flatbed and I was only interested in the reefer division.
