Being from New England especially from Massachusetts make things real tough & complicated for new drivers or future drivers who want to go OTR with a decent company like crete, conway or millis ...
the Massachusetts registry of motor vehicles does not accept CDL licences obtained from any of the other states of the USA, YOU HAVE TO retest on everything including written exams endorsements and road test.
so going through a trucking company school to get a cdl is no option for MA people wanting to get into trucking. and if you chose to get your cdl from a Massachusetts school that's another pain in the ##* cause there are no PTDI certified schools in this #### state there are two major schools PARKER in Avon,Ma and NETTTS in north Andover, Ma
Parker is known to be a decent school but their program is only 120 hours which is not enough ( all trucking companies require 140 hours training )
NETTTS is known as a CDL mill but they do give a 140 hours "training" in (the paper of course) and the only companies that hire from Nettts are the top worst companies out there, Werner and Swift.
i called crete, rohel, conway, millis, shneider...and many others ...all of them require one of the two, wither to attend their own school (in another state) or get an MA CDL from a PTDI certified school (there are not any in mass )
i can not afford to go to another state for 4 or 5 weeks without a job just to get a licence and get back to MA to retest all over again.
what do you guys think?
all ideas or suggestions are very welcome?
thank you in advance.

Get the CDL out of state. Do you think these companies are going to provide you with a "resident" address to put on your new CDL ??? Nooooo
It doesn't matter. You can go back years from now, and swap it over if you want.
I personally know a Conway driver who has a TX CDL, with a Bronx address on it. He's had it for years.
The CDL is a Federally regulated endorsement, valid in all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico.
The ONLY thing that is required, you must pass the test. And the information on it, must be correct.
You're not going to get home enough to get caught in that many license checks. Even then, you will hold a "valid" CDL. -
says nothing about a road test, never had trouble converting my CDL:
You may convert a Commercial Driver's License from another state or the District of Columbia. However, due to federal requirements you may not convert a hazardous materials endorsement from another state. To be eligible to receive a hazardous materials endorsement on your Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License, you must apply for and pass a background check and the hazardous materials written exam. -
just to clear things out i m not saying lies or waisting anyone"s time here,
if you go to any MA RMV branch to convert your out of state CDL they will hand you a paper that says this:
ALL CDL LICENSES
ALL CDL licenses before they can be converted need:
-driving record for the last 2 years.
-letter from employer (on letterhead) stating what type of vehicle was driven and for how long.
-one page of each of the last six months of their logbook
if you have not worked consecutively for 2 years at the minimum you will be offered a conversion to a Class D license and be required to take the written exams and road test if you desire a Massachusetts CDL license.
the only exemption to the above. A person that had a prior CDL license in Massachusetts.
CDL conversions can not be processed on thursdays due to the unavailability of the driver control unit. -
Mass is a hard state to get s CDL, I should now I lived there. NETTS is a good school, as I got my CDL from there.. Big companies my recruit from there, but that doesn't mean you have to join anyone of them.. One thing I liked about their school is this.. Once you get your CDL you can go back anytime in the future for a refresher if need be ie, you out of work for say a yr for illness or injury at no extra cost. So you might want to look into them and see if anything has changed..

i dont know when did you attand NETTTS but i went to their school in North andover, ma and talked to students and was advised to go elsewhere.
26 students in the class room 5 to 7 students per truck for driving skills that means when one student is driving six others are sitting in there waiting for their turns to come !!!
i dont think they are worth $5000 -
Trucking Schools are making a killing at this moment. The news last week, said this downturn had given them the biggest boast in years. And they had been less affected than any other industry. Everyone wants to drive now. -

I did mine in NC but my situation is a little different. I have been living in NC for the last 6 years. I have maintained a Mass. license for my entire time in the Army but switched to NC so I could go to my CDL school on the weekends before I retire.
I was going to get it in Mass but after a little research I realized it was a lot cheaper and a little easier (not test wise) to just switch my Mass license to NC, get my CDL then switch it back to Mass when I retire. The only endorsement I will have to take in Mass is the Hazmat. The Combination, Airbrakes, Tank, Doubles and Triples all transfer.
Good Luck! -
CDL kid the problem your having isnt as big as you think. Go to a company school get your cdl in that state and dont change it over until you have meet all your states requirements. You should go get just a state issued ID before you change your licence so you can still be cosidered a state resident just with a different state cdl. You can not have but one license but it dosent say anything about having a plain ole ID in one state and a License in another but for the sake of argument dont ever show them both at the same time as it might mess the rest of us up.
