Can't recall the last time I have seen one out here, maybe a few years ago. I know they are not being made anymore. Kinda like a Western Star, I think that is who bought them out years ago. And Western Star is now Freightliner.

They were bought by IH who wanted their manufacturing capacity. I had one ordered. They were good trucks. Still see them around, some run into the ground, others in really good shape.

Many people have never heard of the MARMON automobile but it was one of the premier vehicles of its time. It was in the class of the Pierce Arrow, Peerless and Packard.

The Marmon Wasp won the first Indianapolis 500 Race in 1911 with Ray Harroun as the driver who accomplished this feat. It was widely speculated he won because of the weight of his car. At that time all race cars held two men, a driver and a mechanic. Harroun's racer was built for only one man, the driver, so that not only streamlined the car but also reduced the weight by one person. He also devised the first rear view mirror ever used on a race car (or a passenger car as well). This combination enabled him to win the race with an average speed of 74.602 MPH. Harroun was an Indiana native and still holds an Indy 500 record. No one has ever come from the 28th (or worse) starting position and end up winning the race.

I delivered a deckset of 3 new Marmon's from Dallas to Rhode Island in the summer of 94'. Incredibly well built trucks but way too expensive in my opinion. Few fleets would be able to justify the entry price which pretty much eliminated sales volumn required to make the company viable again.

Ya, these trucks don't smoke or drink. If they come to your house to push their religion, try and get them to help you with some home renovations before turning them away.

....oops, Marmon. I was mistaken for something else. :biggrin_255:

Marmons were built in Garland Tx. and they were built tough. The main problem with them was getting parts and they were heavy.
