:crybaby: Listen to Mustang! HUGE NO NO! It's not just FCC who will come after you, but US Coast Guard, too, if they hear you!! Should you interfere with actual marine emergencies, you could be looking a HUGE fines, even JAIL. Look at this another way.Would you install and use a POLICE Radio?
See how long THAT would last!:laughing8: Using a marine radio in a motor vehicle is JUST as bad--don't listen to your buddies who *think* they are getting away with something. It's just a matter of time..................................

Bear hunters around here use em' . Aparently if you have a muddy toyota with a box full of plott hounds you can get by with it....maybe the feds are reluctant to mess with that element....

    BS .......

If you get caught and many do it's not like CB the fines run 7-10K ...They get away with it only because they are out of range of CG and FCC monotering however with GMRS/FRS amd MURS ..... why risk a FELONY conviction ....... YES IT CAN BE TREATED AS A FELONY......

In short why be stupid .......

There are omly 2 things the FCC still enforces ( other that HAM and broadcast ) AIRCRAFT and MARINE and requires you have a license to use them or REPAIR them........

you don't have to have a license to operate a marine vhf radio in the USA, but you darn well better have a boat or a dock!

And they do so AT THE PERIL of a huge fine. I can find PLENTY of FCC fines against people for doing it! And, yes, I would not hesitate to drop a dime on them if i ever hear somebody doing such a thing!

Like the police, ham radio, fire, rescue, commercial radio, FCC enforces L I C E N S E D services aggressively. All they have to do is receive a complaint. I have read the the Coast Guard is even MORE grumpy about this than FCC. And they DO have the power to arrest!!!!!\
