    Hi there!

I'm new to this forum as well as I am to the trucking industry, so hello everybody! :)

I am from Winnipeg, MB, Canada and a couple of days ago I got accepted to the MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance) "Entry Level Professional Truck Driver Training Programm". As you may know or not, there is a limited list of companies that are participating sponsors in that programm. So now I'm in the pickle of deciding on which company to call up and try to get on. I was thinking Bison Transport being my first choice and TransX as a second.

Now my question: Are there any current Bison and/or TransX drivers here or anybody who went through the same MPI programm?

    Thanks,
    Falco

Well, this choice is honestly based on the "known factor", as I see these trucks driving the most on the road.
But is it a good choice for a newbie driver like me to hire on with a big company like these?

I think its good fer newbs to sign on with big carriers especially team driving. They'll drive ya like a rented mule and you will cut your teeth quickly... The tough thing is getting a partner you can tolerate.

List all the companies that participate. Bison is a better pick over TransX but you can still do better than bison.

All the participating companies are listed here: *click*

I am also considering ArnoldBrothers or maybe NewHope.

Any advice on any of the participating companies is greatly appreciated! ;-)

Why do you think it's better to sign-on with a big carrier as to a smaller one?

I want to be driving and if they run me hard that's fine with me - single, no kids, no pets! The partner tolerating thing may be an issue for me, but according to the MPI information that part shouldn't last much longer than 3 months before going single, or am I misstaken here?

Big carriers will have you in every corner on the continent hauling various things and because you're running team and at bottom of pay scale they will run the wheels off your truck. You can't get experience by sitting in a truck stop or doing the same 10 mile run day after day.

    OK, makes sense!

Another question: When Bison is advertising a base pay of 0.37/cpm, can I expect to make at least that too or will they pay even lower, being on that MPI program and such?

Out of that list big freight was the only one I saw that has a good enough reputation to recruit from other companies drivers.

In order the rest would be:
    Brandt
    Bison
    Portage
    Custom
    Longhorn
    Payne
    Arnold
    Transx

The others I know nothing about and have never seen them.

Kind of surprised Paul's hauling isn't on there.

    AmandaDass204 Thanks this.
