then when they say no loads unless you have a quallcomm or peoplenet system, then what do you do??? cry and say that costs to much, why don't you just track my phone???

it really isn't unreasonable for a customer to ask for a cell phone number or do the macropoint tracking.

I call with status changes. I am good about that. Or if they want to call for a daily update,.. I dont have a problem with that. But I hold issue with random software on my phone for tracking purposes.

And if they said no loads with out QComm or Peoplenet,.. then just like California,.. I go somewhere else. There is too much freight moving out there to go against my principles. I'm still a newbie in the O/O game. I'm learning how far I can push it and where/when I need to give in. I am doing fine with how I am running now. I dont mean to sound like a braggart,. but I am not struggling.

I know eventually I'll have some kind of Elog system in my truck. I'm against it and I will hold out till the bitter end running paper logs. With Elogs I'm sure it would be possible for them to use it to track their load as well. Until then things will be just like they are now. I am content with that. I dislike change.

It would be more palatable if Verizon, the broker, the shipper, & the receiver were the only people with access to my location. However, I do not think it is acceptable to provide my location to an unknown number of undisclosed 3rd parties, which is what you're consenting to do every time you use MacroPoint. That is just poor security, especially since loads using MacroPoint are likely to be more important/valuable than average...

Hijackings do happen and they happen more often in the weeks leading up to Christmas. About this time last year, the guy parked next to me had his tractor trailer stolen. And even on the rate per mile group, there is someone there posting about insurance dragging their feet after having their load stolen...

Your cell phone can be tracked when it's off. GPS is always active. You have to remove the battery

You give the customer what they want. If it's something everyone else complains, ####### about, or fails to do even better. I give up. Really though this is one of those small things in the big picture why many of the people that call on me do. So drivers just keep doing what you do.

Double Yellow I emailed you 3 loads I did several months ago. One paid $1,975 on 486 loaded miles (one way), another paid $2,325 on 772 loaded miles (round trip), the other $3,900 on 1,260 loaded miles (round trip). That particular broker requires macro-point on every load. But after they worked with me on several they waived that because of my email updates. I have bunches of loads I've done like that which require macro point from them and others. So you guys are telling me you can't afford to cover a little data useage if you're booking freight like this? Crazy.

Rates like that would assuage my concerns, especially if the macropoint requirement was discussed up front. The load I was on paid < $2/mile and the macropoint thing came up out of the blue once loaded & rolling -- not cool with me.

I still find fault with Macropoint sharing your location with multiple undisclosed parties. It's like leaving your lock off a sealed trailer -- you'll probably be fine, but that extra layer of security can make it hard enough for a criminal to move to the next target instead...

you guys are worried about macropoint, lol. when in reality you are very seldom not on a surveillance camera, your every move could be tracked from cell phone records, an ez pass, fuel card usage, debit or credit card use, pre-pass, quallcomm and on and on.

you are already being tracked more than you already know, worrying about macropoint tracking is the least of anyones worries. I myself would rather use macropoint than make a dang bunch of check calls.

I guess none of you give the shipper your cell phone number either? rollin, I too give up.

Can a modestly organized criminal access your current location through your cell phone? Your EZ pass? Your fuel card? Your credit card? Your qualcomm?

No, because those are legitimate companies with at least a modicum of security. But any 4th rate mobster can become a customer of MacroPoint and access hundreds/thousands of truck locations -- most of which are probably hauling something of value.
