Not trying to sound like a smart ###, but are you sure you have GG'er, it's an option on the fleet package trucks and std. on the Premium series, with that said, I "think" just depressing the brake pedal hard when stopped will enable it, what does your manual say?

grade gripper should be standard depending on the package, if your trans has the P for performance, and it's not locked out, then you have the premium. Any grade more than 1% is enough to activate it, you should have a momentary button the dash to deactivate it. If your not sure, check each button, when you press it to deactivate, your guard dog display will light up saying "GRADE GRIPPER DISABLED".

I drive a different truck every day, slip seat. Sunday I drove a truck with mdrive for the first time. When I start the engine a message pops up that "grade gripper is off".

What the link said was "....A dash switch can be used to disable Grade Gripper, whenever needed...." So I thought that perhaps I needed to turn it on but then again putting the service brake on may activate it.

The first AMT that I drove was in 2009 and was in a Freightliner. I hated it because among other things when stopped at a traffic light going up hill it would roll backwards. The truck I drove Sunday was never pointed up hill while stopped so there was no issue but I just wanted to know before getting into the Mountains how to activate it.

it sounds like they might have the grade gripper disabled, I would check with your company about that. If it is disabled, make sure you always have your foot firmly on the brake when stopped, or you will roll backwards. If the company isn't sure, I would check to see if the fuse/relay for the grade gripper is missing. Based on the link that was posted, which shifter do you have?

I don't really know much about the different AMTs that Mack has the truck that I drove had about 2,600 miles on it so it was just placed into service. It has 12 forward gears 2 reverse gears. For some reason when I placed it in neutral one time it said N2.

Been driving one of these for nearly a year now. The grade gripper is always on unless I disable it with the dash switch. When you stop on a hill you will hear a little whoosh of air. Press the switch to turn it off and you will hear it again. Personally I hate it. If I dont turn it off my truck will lurch forward, then stop, then after a delay will finally take off.

What does the button look like? I have no manual but I see an "...*..." by the D N R buttons, is that it?

No. The disable switch will be over by the cruise switches. Mine is right next to the ATC switch. I think it has a picture of a truck on an incline.
