I tried lucas oil stop leak in my F350 turbo diesel truck and it clogged my oil cooler. I will never use it again on anything.

Well the stuff is just so thick! It's like gear oil... Actually I think it really is gear oil. But seriously I run a small-med sized delivery company (less than 10 trucks) and we've tried lucas oil stop leak a few times over the years and yeah that happened to a few of our trucks. We just pulled the clogged oil coolers and flush them out with mineral spirits.

Use gear oil instead of Lucas. Lucas has no additives. 80/90 gear oil, does the same thing yet has antifriction and high pressure lubrication additives. Lucas I bet is straight 80 weight but not certain on that. All I know is like the bottle says pure petroleum. The synthetic Lucas I have no clue about, and I do not care.

Gl5 gear oil can cause problem inside the engine. Something tracts with the yellow metal or something. I went to 15w40 and 1 gallon regular Lucas and my leak is nearly gone. Mileage is around 6.5mpg.

I'm really worried about overall engine longevity with these newer thinner oils they are now pushing for better fuel economy.
AModelCat Thanks this. -
to the people suggesting gear oil....do not put gear oil in your engine it is not compatible with the bearings in your engine.
but yes Lucas is just a low grade heavy weight oil. -
