Stay as far away from them as you can. I had the misfortune of dealing with them in their North Carolina office. They are the most arrogant sons of #####es I have seen. They will lie, promise you stuff, even offer to put it in writing but when it comes down to it, it's just a ploy to get you in there and take your money.
I was looking at a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia Evolution. Keyword there was Evolution. Filled out their credit app, got approved, had all my paperwork to who I was going to lease onto, ready to roll out.
The day I went to pick up the truck, the scheisters tried the switcheroo and give me a regular Cascadia. After showing them they were wrong, and rejecting the truck. I had to jump through hoops to prove the stock numbers were different, I was told that if I wanted the Evolution, it was $15K more.
Fought to get my deposit back and now I tell everyone to stay clear!! They will try to screw you over as well if it means they can get your moneyfaux_maestro, Resurgam and Knucklehead Thank this. -
Well that's scary. Heading to the NC location now.

Actually the response was very helpful. I didn't walk away feeling cheated but with the poor selection of inventory, I can very much see why the experience tourned sour. I'll explain my experience in details as well as suggestions or how to turn it around, in a separate post.

Background: I am not a mechanic or driver. I, however, have spent a thousand moons on the paper-pushing side, specifically fleet and asset management, budgeting and forecasting, and sales. Basically I am skilled at 1. finding the money and 2. keeping as much of that money as possible.
The gameplan was to go in and narrow down the selection to 3 trucks based upon a pre-defined checklist (courtesy of these forum responses, VIN reports, mechanic, rawze's website and awesome book, youtube university, knowing the kinds of loads that will be run in advance and the best truck for the job, and personal experiences dealing with the costs of breakdowns). No such thing as a perfect truck but we actually have a spreadsheet that will helps forecast net profits over the next 4 months for each truck, given their condition. How much is needed to put in the truck to really allow it to run with minimal downtime, is important. I also video chatted with mechanic while on-site and had photos to send of questionable areas needing to look into further.
From the initial selection, the mechanic would then go on-site to further inspect and test the truck (saves money). LRM requires you to sign for the truck first to take it off of the lot for an inspection (dyno, blowby, etc) and gives you 3 days to return and get your deposit back. That's just not a lot of time.
With all of that being said, I was not happy with the inventory quality at the Greensboro NC location. There were lots of wear and tear in locations where with much research, it would probably uncover harsh drivers and costly experiences. A "smaller" example, the tires were a match of low-grade Chinese caps and good year virgins. My experience from running the trucks primarily in the NE area, and those caps never hold up. More money.
The poor selection could have just been that it were the end of the month and these were the trucks that were harder to sale? It's not the salesmen's fault but I do know that they have quotas. The sales guy was very nice and helpful but the convo had to move from trying to sell me an obviously crappy truck (later verified by their mechanic to be crappy) to how we can make this work and what are the options. I can see, however, how the poster felt arrogance. I am very detail-oriented and the convo could have gone the wrong way. I expected that in advance. Thankfully it didn't and he indulged (and kept it real after pushing). Make sure you know exactly what you are looking for in advance and be willing to walk away!
Salesmen let me know that 1. no penalty lease and 2. they can finance outside trucks. Confirming that with the actual finance guy but if true, then the inventory quality is irrelevant. I love the flexibility and his willingness to figure out other solutions. I haven't looked at the actual financing paperwork, but so far I liked LRM's lease program. We have a long-term strategy and this helps to get the ball rolling. Hoping that they confirm that outside trucks can be financed. We'd definitely continue working with them if so.Dh46, p608, XpsychO and 1 other person Thank this.
