Looking to get my cdl before I apply for a trucking position, but I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for it. I know of a "school" in Allen tx that advertises a $200 2 to 3 day course to get your cdl. I think this school would be a joke and from what I have heard you need something like 160 hours driving before you can get a job with a company.
Im hoping to find something around the $1500 range for school. Anyone know of a place?

not sure what you can learn in two to three days or how they can teach you in that amount of time. most companies (i should say their insurance) would want to see the 160 hour course. community colleges seem to be cheaper but takes longer to finish. you mighr check that out.or you can go to a starter company school and have to stay a year or to there.

Swift moved their school from San Antonio to Corsicana and its an excellent school. They offer an interest free loan for tuition. (No, you are not under any obligation to drive for them after you get your CDL however you will have a hard time getting work without current experience. Also, dptrucker is absolutely right about that decision being in the hands of the insurance companies.) You would have to keep up with the $75 weekly payments to keep the loan from accelerating but the company refunds half, $37.50, as a bonus to stay with them so you are paid in full in 13 months. If you stay 26 months you have $0 tuition costs; it is all refunded by continuing the $37.50 weekly refund. The cost is $3900 or $2900 for veterans.

I pretty much knew it was a joke when I watched the video. The woman driving the truck is falling out of her top, and the camera man pretty much keeps the camera pointed there. Had to watch it several times cause I kept forgetting to listen to what she was saying ..
