You are assuming that the owners are fair and respectfull. I understand they can have any vehicle towed for being unattended...how long is the question can you be away from the vehicle.

Now the burden is on you to find the answer....it could be anywhere from a couple of hours or more.

On a postive note, I have parked at loves in Ft Pierce, went to the restarant next door, had a few beers and ate a fat juicy steak watched a sports channel....gone for 4 hours, no problemo! finished a ten hour rest got up and not a peep from the store manager.

I say, there is always a risk when parking a big truck somewhere you are not familiar with.

Ok, just so you all know, my biggest gripe here is NOT that I was told I couldn't leave my truck unattended to go eat lunch. I just read an article in the Truckers Report that talked about a little town out in Montana that put up a big stink about Loves wanting to build a new truck stop in their town. Love's made the argument that a truck stop would add a giant new revenue stream to local businesses from all of us drivers coming to their town. But if their policy is to not let drivers leave their vehicles unattended, how can we spend money in their town. Just like I wanted to leave for a couple hours to spend money in the local economy and was told NO.

Guaranteed that the application of said "policy" for towing all unattended vehicles is just legalese for each location reserving the right to practice discretion based on local conditions.

Safe and convenient tractor-trailer parking in any major city in Florida is tight and it doesn't surprise me one bit that any truck stop would try to maximize its revenue stream by keeping a close eye on parking.

This is clearly a case of a particular Love's taking full advantage of a corporate policy rarely enforced elsewhere.

Similar to what happened at the Lombardi Service Plaza in NJ. Tow trucks and state police scattered everywhere hooking trucks left and right. Don't really blame them for the ones really leaving their trucks unattended for a few days. It ruins it for the ones just staying a few hours or a day or so.

How do they know you aren't inside the truck stop shopping for a while? Do they announce it that they are towing this truck, or that one, and if you are there you need to let them know? I don't see how just being out of your truck for a few hours could be an issue. Maybe it is, and it's that crazy there, at which point you would definitely need to get corporate involved, heck maybe even the media as that's just crazy. But I'd be willing to bet that this is guys who parked there for extended periods of time leaving their vehicles unattended and lieing about it.

    Dear MTM.....

Are you a first year rookie?

After a while, it gets really easy to find what you need, want living out there on the road. Experience always prevails. Some of the best places to park are not these corporate fuel depots. I see your talking sbout the one on US27. But, there is a Loves at exit 44 ( I-4 ), never had a problem there except finding a slot to back in. And across the street is a family owned Truck Stop and Restaurant (Polk City)

Any way, I appreciate you taking the time to share!

    Dusty
