I have been driving for over 20 years but mostly military and government. (Yes I know the jokes and cut downs) I am starting at LJ Kennedy in a few weeks and I have yet to hear or read ANYTHING bad. Is this company real???? I have seen the main office and done a road test and all that so they are real but what is real about them? Any one have any advice?

as i travel to and from my destination, i go through connecticut twice each day. i am always hearing the radio commercials for LJ Kennedy (the flatbed company?, that's all i see on the road) i haven't ever heard anything bad about them. they do offer what the radio ads say. i just don't want to do any flatbedding myself, nor drive several miles to my job just to start my day. i am always seeing new, (or like new) equipment. go for it......... -

I have worked side by side with kennedy drivers. We all loaded together everyday at burlington n.j. at a pipe company there. I personally knew Mr libby,he was a tetired ct. state trooper, he was thier safety man in nj. I live in maine. he wanted me to work for them and i have talked to personnel in auburn,me . They also have branch out in ky. They pay by the hour and have local runs in ne., I just don't like the trucks they have, too small and too slow, alot of tarping, but ussually are only one way,you pick loaded trailer and untarp and unload,or load and drop for another driver. They are also running the road more now and drivers keep the truck at home when off. They are one of the last small one family owned companies, they have a good rep in maine.

I've seen different locations printed on their trucks, such as Kearny NJ, and Aliquippa PA.

1st off, the people here are easy to work with. i run out of carrollton, ky. now i know there are always negatives about any company, so, i figured id just let you all know about this one. the equipment is pretty good and i have never had a problem with maintenance. my complaints are as follows: i lose 15 to 20% weekly on mileage. i only go from stop to stop! the pay rate is .43 a mile. you usually dont know where you are headed after you unload. i have waited from 3 to 22 hours for a reload, and you do get detention after 3 hours ( at $10.00 ) an hour, but not if you wait at one of their terminals. ( i have waited 18 hrs at carrollton ky. ) you get $25 a day for layovers, never a problem. finally, i was promised 2500 miles a week and in 6 months ive gotten paid that once ( when i actually ran 3100 ). the way i figure .43 a mile minus the 15 - 20% loss i actually get from .34 to .37 a mile. not bad, but not quite right.

Can't say anything bad about Kennedy but I can honestly say being a flatbed driver up here in the NorthEast and speaking with the LJK drivers on the C.B. and at the rest areas...YOU WILL RUN INTO NEW YORK CITY if you are a N.E. driver ! Seems just about every one of them I run into is coming back or going into New York....Brooklyn,L.I. or NYC. Not a big deal if once you get to know the city...just get in early and out quick. The terminal up here in Bristol,CT has pre-loaded trailers sitting there too....and alot of Macks ( yes....a few brand new ones along with day cabs) and some IH9400's. Every now and then they come into our lumber yard with a shingle load ( tarped ) and they seem to be enjoying themselves as compared to other carriers who do nothing but complain and whine while untarping and unloading. GOOD LUCK !!
