Just a suggestion, IF your tank caps are factory locks, you would be surprised at how many other tank cap keys will fit. For instance on my old Pete, I had several keys from other caps that would open it.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 4, 2014

i have used a hammer and a flat head screwdriver on other locking fuel caps. it dont go all the way through and will not drop trash in the tank. just put the screw driver at the edge of the lock in the seam and go all the way around it beating on it. then pry that cover off to expose the internal parts. after that , you can take the screw driver and turn in to unlock it sometimes. if not, break the internal parts and twist off the cap. i have done this a few times when my boss would lose his keys. he always got mad at me for doing it, but like i asked him , would you rather it still be on there, or would you just rather buy another one and be able to refuel? you know i never got an answer from him. lol.

yea hope it works out as good for you as it does for me. let me know how it goes. the whole drilling thing was kinda dangerous anyways. the drill bit can generate lots of heat and sparks causing a fire, and i dont think you really want that. lol.

If you have to drill it out dip the drill bit in grease. The grease will collect the metal residue from the drilling. Diesel won't ignite from a drill bit so nothing to worry about there.

I've had good luck twisting them off with a large set of slip joint pliers.

I stopped by the dealer when I stupidly threw my factory spare lugnut key away for my 4 wheeler. The mechanic had a whole drawer full and had two of mine. He gave me one. You might try a dealer mechanic.
