After cleaning my battery terminals I now have no power going to the dome door lights or the dashboard power outlets. I checked the associated under dash fuses and all are fine. I did spot that for some reason the 40 amp maxi fuse for the trailer had blown - which is strange. Battery wires were not crossed, negative disconnected first and positive reconnected first. All other electrical power circuits appear to be just fine...sleeper lights, sleeper power outlets, fridge....all work and the truck starts with no issues. Is there anywhere else I should check for a break in the circuit? Seems such a stupid thing to have go wrong after doing such a minor piece of maintenance.

    Thanks in advance.

A long shot but how did you check the fuses? With a tester/DVOM or by physically pulling fuses? I have seen fuses with corroded blades and/or connector. Especially if the windshield ever leaked. Only a tester will reveal that. If you don't have a tester double check the fuses in question and see if one of the blades is discolored or shows any signs of heat.

Don't have a volt meter with me so I can't check the power to the fuses. I did visually inspect each fuse by pulling them, no discoloration or burning. I did change the fuses out for new ones, with no better results.

All cables were disconnected from the battery terminals at once before I started to clean and only reconnected after I had finished. I have always been told and practiced disconnect the negative first, reconnect the negative last.

i had this same problem on a 07 volvo.the electrician had to do some rewiring cause one whole section of fuses on the board was out of power.door dome lights and power outlets just like you are saying after reconnecting batteries.I dont know how familiar the electrician was with volvo electrical system but he rewired and i havent had problems since(year and a half ago).Someone told me that there is another section of fuses behind the ash tray but i i have never checked

Well, as bizarre as the fault appeared it has now disappeared. This morning I had the low battery buzzer go off, started the engine and like magic the dome light and power outlets started working again. The volvo gremlin strikes again!!.
