Are there people out here doing these gigs and getting paid well? I got my start with this sort of driving and its still one of my favorite types. I enjoyed the piggybacks more than the trucks frankly! I have over 5 years experience and was quite good on the piggyback. If I can come up with a decent employer or maybe even start my own business doing this, I'd very much be interested. Scouring the internet for information on these unicorns seems to be just that... looking for unicorns.
Working for Lowes was a slow painful death... I imagine Home depot would be the same. The local building supply type places never pay very well, and break your body. At one point in time I had (but sadly lost) a guys contact info who delivered the block to Lowes and others places. They seemed to pay well, but the hours if memory serves were crazy long. I've thought about Sod places... not sure how they pay, nor if they work year round. Even the Pods moving services places seem to sometimes use them in their supply chain. Once again hard to find info. Id want to keep it near the Kansas City area.
I'd love to hear from other drivers perspectives on this. Even if you don't feel like sharing in the thread, feel free to shoot me a message. Any ideas? Any companies seeking drivers with this sort of experience?
Thanks!
Looking for Moffett/Flatbed ideas.

sadly here, that all there is, contractors supplies, lumber yards, Lowes, Home Depot, and sod farms.
many are as you should know, seasonally viable.
i did Lowe's, and when my deliveries were done?
i either HAD to work in the store for LOWER hourly pay over my driving pay, or go home.
i chose to go home, and start searching.
i "lasted" at Lowes for about a month, maybe less.Kyle G., ducnut and gentleroger Thank this. -
I too worked at Lowes twice. One time much better than the other. The pay was decent. Still not what id like though... and yeah I attribute all the failings of setups like that to basically retail stores with retail workers trying to do big-boy work with often times... undertrained teens and the like as said workers. Throw in several levels of incompetent management and obtuse company and/or store policy and Bam! You've got a recipe for success! -
I am in the utility field. I actually landed this job through a temp agency (Trillium) believe it or not, so you might give them a call.
As far as trucking jobs, I wouldn’t dream of doing anything else.

I agree its quite fun, the only other form of trucking I've enjoyed similar amounts is being a yard dog. For different reasons obviously. I really miss situations though like the second picture you posted. There is something very cool about being out in the middle of nowhere, Just you and your machines. Perhaps a crazy way to get in to the site, and a crazy way to get out... etc. etc.
Thanks again for your response!Kyle G. Thanks this. -
That’s funny you bring up yard dogging. That is an often overlooked sector of this industry, and is definitely not for everyone. I did it for a couple two or three years and enjoyed it. The other yard dogs and I were always messing with each other, it was like a game... LOL. Oh the memories! -
Lots of building materials supply business besides Lowe’s .
Find the ones that the General Contractors use in your town.
99% of the time It won’t be Lowe’s or Homo Depot .
GCs hate the big box storesbeastr123 Thanks this. -
Yeah man, it really does seem to be overlooked. That's what I've been doing now for the last couple of years myself. Lots of good things about it. No traffic, No Scales, No Dot, No cops. I personally right now have really good days off. It and the moffett/flatbed combos are my two favorites for sure. Really if I could do either of these and make bank Id be happy. I'm doing around 50k a year now, The closer I could get to doubling that would be nice!
When looking at trillium, so far no openings in my area, but ill definitely keep my eyes on them.Kyle G. Thanks this. -

no roads, no traffic, only ice or snow i had to deal with was in the yard..
no breakdowns, no waiting for road service, no road rage, etc,etc.etc.
i only left the job, cuz the lease company lost the bid...
