Most companies will put you with trainer to run team miles. This the standard. This is also where bad drivers come from, as they are your point of reference and if they have bad habits.....

At Swift about half your training will be team driving unless they will make an exception for you.

Even if that is 100% accurate....ALL of the time.....and at EVERY Swift location (that offers training)....Swift will still be a MUCH BETTER start for you...than what I got....at Schneider.

My FIRST REAL Driving gig was with a Flatbed company in South Carolina. My Trainer was about my age and we got along just fine and argued over who was to drive when. That was with Paper Logs and QUALCOMM.
The best trip we took was an "emergency delivery" near Pocatello, ID. from South Carolina, and we had a wonderful 3 days at the Hot Ponds/Springs, made delivery, then split to a pickup point and got back to SC., where I got my truck.
The NO SLEEP while someone is driving part is exactly why I refused to do Team Driving, in my beginning "career".
A little before I stepped out of Trucking, I did some team driving with a 69 year old woman at a company where we usually drove Solo, and she was Military Trained and a hard case. It worked yet randomly and I just said NO MORE after 3 trips.

You gotta do what You gotta do, just NEVER JOB HOP. The only time to job hop is through a Driver temp/perm service with 2 YEARS VERIFIABLE EXPERIENCE. CHEERS!!

    Chinatown Thanks this.

They are OK, but the pay is a bit low. The El Paso drivers haul a lot of A O Smith water heater driver assist unloads in drop-deck vans (like the one pictured) coming out of Juarez (cross-docked off Rojas). Once you get enough time there, if you enjoy that type of work, jump ship over to AN Webber out of Kankakee, IL. They have a terminal in El Paso doing the exact same job for better pay. My numbers are way outdated, but I was offered by both of those companies about a decade ago when I lived in El Paso, and West came in 8 cpm lower than Webber... and Webber has an all-Peter Red/White/Blue fleet if the brand matters to you.

My notes show A.N. Webber hires new cdl school grads. I'll add that to El Paso drivers.

    This is from 2023 website:
    • Minimum age: 23 years of age.
    • A minimum of one (1) year experience as a driver of commercial motor vehicles similar to the type of equipment utilized by A.N. Webber, Inc., or completion of a qualified Truck Driver Training School followed by completion of company training.
