Hi all,
I am hoping someone can recommend a company either based in, or with a terminal in, southwest Ohio (Dayton-Cincinnati).
I am going to CDL school soon, doing a mid-life career change. I do have some driving experience, but it was 25 years ago so I am essentially starting from zero again.
These are my requirements:
* Home at least once a week
* No-touch freight
* Treats drivers well
* Trucks with APUs and manual transmissions
I would prefer a small local company, but I know most of them won't hire new grads.
Any recommendations based on personal experience would be much appreciated!
Looking for a good company in SW Ohio

Superior Carriers has a terminal in Cincinnati & make probably $65K or more per year.
Your wish list is tough. Many companies are now switching to automatics because the trucks get about 2 mpg more with autos.
Ozark Motor Lines - home weekends & 100% no touch freight.
Tyson Foods
Watkins-Shepard - terminal in Berea, KY
Tidewater Transit
Dutch Maid
Bay & Bay
J&R Schugel
H.O. Wolding
Pride Transport - no touch freight/satellite TV/refrigerator/XM radio/10 speed manual transmission.
JBS Carriers
Dartco Inc.
Roehl Transport| Home Weekly | Van Dedicated Northeast Kraft Fleet. Mason, OH 45040
Van Dedicated Northeast Dedicated Kraft Fleet Truck Driver.
Millis Transfer - Cincinnati, OH - Midwest Regional
With our new Tax Advantage option, drivers will take home more money after taxes.
There you go; study the websites and decide if you can deal with any of them.Last edited: Jun 5, 2015
SHOJim and Miles Ohio Thank this. -
Thanks very much for that list Chinatown, I will check out their websites and see what people have to say about them on this forum.
If everybody had automatics it wouldn't matter, but as I understand it if I start out driving an automatic for 6-12 months, it will be harder to get hired by another company who still have manuals, is that true? That is my big concern. -
Don't be concerned about the transmission. Companies need drivers, so if you have a good record the company will teach you to drive a manual. Probably take all of an hour or two to master the manual transmission.

DOT Foods has a DC in Cambridge City Indiana. They have a big push on right now for no-touch transfer drivers. Home at least weekly, 65k average, automatic volvos.
Great company, great benefits, good pay and bonuses. No apu's but they have a liberal idle policy and inverters.Miles Ohio Thanks this. -
Thanks Greg, I checked out their website and they look really good!
