Blew a tandem in subzero temps this afternoon, 44,000 in the box, about 30,500 on the axle, blowout happened at 2:30 pm, would run out of hours at 5:45 pm. Called the 4 service places nearby, shortest wait was 4.5 hrs before they could dispatch a technician, who was 70 miles from me, longest was 7 hrs before they could free someone. Called another service, 140 miles away, 7 to 8 hrs before they could get someone to me. Boss flipped a coin, told me to take it real slow and try to limp back to town. Normal 2 hr drive took 3 hrs., wasn't pleased, it was his call to make. Said if I got stopped/shutdown he would pay the ticket (which I know he will) and come get me. Limped into the yard with 45 sec. left in my day.

Sounds like a good call to me. As cold as it is out, the tires aren't going to heat up, and, going slow, if something did happen to the other tire, it's easy to just pull over. I would have done it the same way. Sometimes you just have to go with it. Road service would have been a big bill, and you would have been out of hours.

I waited 1 hr 38 minutes to get authorization for an eshop for a dot trl inspection.

Took another 2 hrs to get said eshop sent.

    This was last weekend xD

My company blowwwwwssss when it comes to road service help.

Longest I ever waited was 2 days for a tow truck. Def related stop engine light.

Middle of summer headed north up the Pecos trail from Laredo....middle of nowhere.

....it broke down again when I got to buffalo Wyoming....same issue.

Got towed all the way up to billings which happenedd to be where I was delivering.

Needless to say I had an excellent mpg month on their computer.

Longest shop time was 11 days
    Replaced windshield
    Def SCR
    Hub
    Check engine

....was sitting @ my house the entire time getting paid to do so.....;D ...funny how that works out if you know the mech.

I blew a drive tire 60 miles north of Oklohoma City on I-35 one night. Sat on the shoulder three hours before the service truck arrived. It's just part of the job I reckon.

Running containers for the Big Red Screw, and caught a bolt the size of the Empire State Building through my LH steer in Banning. Thinking quickly, I limped it off the road and down the frontage road to a tire shop.

    A tire shop.

Call up BRS. "Dude, [explains situation]. Let's get this done."

Oh, hell no. "We don't have an account there." So I wait...and wait...for ten hours.

Apparently, it was much more cost-effective to send someone all the way from freaking Corona, rather than using the tire shop I was parked directly in front of. Yeah, that made so much sense that Aristotle himself came back from the dead to commend BRS on their masterful command of logic.

People wonder why I hate big companies(at least on the TL side)...it's because with them, it's all about policies and procedures, and common sense isn't even on the radar. :biggrin_2552:

Saturday night, early evening, I waited 8 hrs on 78 in NJ about 4 miles from the 287 split. Tire intact except for a blown out sidewall, which took the left rear airbag.

It wasn't really legal with the repair, but got it fixed right the next day in NJ at a place I despise after delivering in Brooklyn, I had to refuse the pineapples they found for a backhaul, that trailer had a terrible odor that resisted repeated washings for a couple of weeks, but that is another story that's already been told, long ago.

    When it rains, it pours.

I was in saint rose la found out my clutch went out in receiver door had to wait 3 1/2 for shop to arrange tow trk after they had me try a multitude of things to try and get my truck to go in gear i think i talked to 3 mechanics my truck was not going in gear i almost broke my finger trying to get it to go. After 2 hours of shop trying i had to wait another hour for tow and they had nerve to ask me was i calling a cab of course i went with my trk man they got over on my company they charged them for towing my truck, bought separate truck for my trailer, then charged 8 day storage for my trailer would have been 9 if i didn't tell them i was there on 8th day for my trailer. I proved to myself i was a good driver that day i had to back up length of football field with junk around me i had to get around without hitting. And gate was barley big enough for a suv to go thru. But i made it oh yea!!!!! When my trk broke down in la it was right after hurricane and them hotel prices were a joke i told my company to send me home. A driver came and got me going and coming

About 6 hours when I was north of Junction, Texas and blew two tires on the same axle. One popped and before I had a chance to say "#### me" the one next to it popped. Had to buy one tire and use my spare. The tire they sold us was a decent tire. Used but Virgin tread.

8 hours. I-35 in south Texas. Didn't bother me a bit. I made it off the highway to some construction equipment parking. Service guy woke me up to authorize, did the deed in about 20 minutes. I went back to sleep and finished a 10. :)
