Is there any regulations on breaks?
When the breaks should be taken time wise?
Do you have to do the PTI each time you stop to take a break/loading time/long break?
Log Book Q:How often do you have to take a break when driving?

No you do a pre trip at the beginning of the day and a post trip at the end of the day. It is a good idea to check your truck if you do stop to fuel or to get a bite to eat. You don't have to log it. They are trying to pass a law that makes us take a 30 minute mandatory break but its not on the books yet.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I think with the new law,you are requred to take a half hr brk during your shift. You do a pretrip before you start driving which is 15 minutes on line4 or however long you want it to be.Most only count a pretrip as 15 minutes. Then you do a post trip at the end of your day which you can log that on line 1.I never do a post because I have to pretrip it anyway. Each time you stop is would'nt hurt to do a tire check or even a pti. Many times you'll be sitting at the shp and receiver for hrs so it's not like you don't have time to check your fluids, belts that sort of thing.

Since when do you think you can log a post trip off duty? If dot makes me log when THEY inspect my truck I would think they want me to log when I do. -
from what i understand the new law which does not take effect till july2013 will require you to take a 1 hr break either on line 1 or 2 within the first six hours of driving. the 1 hr break can be used in conjunction with loading and unloading.

I don't log it as on duty, since its done after driving and takes less than 7.5 min, DOT has never said anything about it on any inspections, nor has any company I have worked for.
-
Some companies want you to log both. Some only require 1. That why I like to drive through into the next day so I don't spend 15 minutes doing a post trip.

I have had my logs checked many times because my last company had a bad safety rating and NEVER have they questioned me logging a post trip on line 1 unless with the new laws you have to log it on line 4 now.If that's how your company wants you to do it then by all means log it on line 4 but Like I said DOT has never said anything about me logging a post on line 1
