..... I’m not from philly. Anymore I barely ever get to philly. Imo philly is one of the best places for outbound freight. Idk bout if you’re leased to someone; or want to stay hyper local; but if you’re looking to do out n back model open deck work, that’s a great place to do it.

Get on a union barn it would be worth for just bennies alone. Prob not as good as back in 80s and 90s but still better than 90% of the garbage bs on the open market.
Go down to the local and see if they'll give you names of carriers that do teamster work + O/O and go from there.
Don't rule out open deck, find a teamster operation running steel and you'll be set. I don't know how it is today but back in the 90s it paid stupid good -

JED has contracts for dedicated Wakefern loads. Don't know nothing about the O/O side, but if Wakefern is what you want, they're probably your best bet to grab ShopRite loads. Forget about even trying to be an O/O for Food Haulers. IMPOSSIBLE to get in. You either have to know somebody, or start off working for an O/O before your even considered. I know a guy who works part-time for an O/O for Food Haulers. The guy owns 3 Pete's and has to keep them running 7 days a week. Don't know the exact numbers of what they make, but judging by all the hyped up Pete's they have on the road pulling ShopRite loads, they seemed to be paid very well. Company drivers also get paid very well too. They top out over $30 an hour. Latest I heard, they're up to $34. Teamster's Local 863. The guy in charge of safety and hiring, his name is Bill. Can't post his number on this forum though.
JED is also Teamster's Local 863. They don't make as much as Food Haulers, but they do have VERY good benefits. Free healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, health, dental vision. Pension kicks in after 1 year of service. They get paid by the load. Trip rate. Can make $75-100k + a year. That's on the company side.
Here's a couple pics on Food Haulers O/O.....
