Im 47 now...I been diggin and driving in this town since I was 19...Im about done!!!
Im looking at administration man...Dispatch? Safety? heck I dont know...I got a couple more years of driving in me, thats it tho (as a company guy that is)...
I wanna be like a contract supervisor, going to the minesites and making sure drivers are in compliance etc etc...Theres a need for that...
If you hop out of your truck without PPE, im there to say something "hey bud, wheres your hardhat" !! I think keeping the contract is really dang important!! A lot of men on this haul...If you think its ok to not chalk your wheels on the minesite just because your takin a quick pee out where no one is, your wrong...who the ## are you to jeopardize the contract? right?

Youll leave training week one fully briefed, and you'll recieve your MSHA certifications....pretty cool, easy stuff for sure

You'll see guys breaking the rules, and not doing it right, and youll see the pro's..we got both kinds

I need money, so no shortcuts for me, lol

I can run equipment a little bit but not enough to do it on a professional level. Gonna go take the Hazmat test today and see what happens. Anxious to move down there but need work first

I stumbled on this thread while looking for local work in Phoenix. CTI sounds like a really good company, so I did the online application. About how long does it take them to contact you if they're interested in you?
    Thanks

Couple other guys called them, they said January they are hiring again...
When I applied, I got called within a week, they hired 2 for Tucson, 10 for other terminals....

Id start botherin them non stop in jan...We, CTI, just got a big mining gig with Capstone, who bought out BHP...So, Im fully expecting a busy 2016, 30 new trucks have been ordered with 30 new trailers, wierd trailers with fiberglass tops, a crane picks up box off trailers, dumps copper concentrate into ship, sets box back on trailer, then you go...So on the copper side of CTI, the future looks good...Im not looking at all the cement, lime, flyash blower work, dont want it, so cant say much about it...The hazmat jobs, copper and acid, seem to be the good ones....Im supposed to be trained up on acid soon so i can keep running when copper slows, as it did this month..
Last 2 months, I ran 6 days, saturday nights off, averaged 1400 a week, 1200 for the 2 loads a night, another 200 in delays here and there, and were paid like 8 bucks a day for pretrip insp and fueling...
Im having a great experience there...All things good
However, my pal is having a bad experience...got a crappy trailer, had to shovel a bunch, crappy truck with crappy run somewhere different everyday running cement in a set of doubles after giving up on copper, takin home 500 a week hatin life, etc etc...

Although Im promoting this company, no guarantee your gonna get on a good haul like me in a new truck like me...they put me where they needed me
But, guys do switch around from gig to gig tho..so, there is outs

Best part, all the dispatchers and bosses are all x-drivers, for this company!! I dig that...They know what a bad day is, and know when not to push a guy too far...Big enough co, but not too big...

Saw some mistakes recently, guys didnt get in trouble..
For example, Loader operator dumps a load of copper concentrate on a tarped trailer, ruined the tarp, took truck out of commision for a day..Driver who didnt untarp, and operator who didnt notice didnt get in trouble..Bosses figured they paid enough price as they had to manually shovel 18 thousand pounds out of the trailer (off the tarp) at 20 pounds a shovel...I think they said both of them took 4 hours...
No need to be banned from the mine site, no need for drugtest or disciplinary...I like the bosses mentality..

Anyways, Im ramblin...still there, still like it

Hiring signs up everywhere, but out of town guys here, called and they told him call back in a few weeks

Call and ask for Brooke, or Debra in HR !! Dont ask first person who answers...
Better yet, try terminal manager David, a good guy, one of us...

Oh ya, tell em Mike #A005 sent you, I'll get 2k....You get 1k sign on bonus, 500 right away, 500 after 180 days...

Quarterly 500 safety bonus too!! Im waiting for mine as we speak, supposed to be 1st week in jan!!!

Not much else in Tucson exactly right now, Estes is hiring,, thats about it, all the rest stinks

You're not joking about that. The only other place I found with decent pay was a small company that has a few trucks that go from Nogales to NC or KY and then right back to Arizona for time off. The owner has his trucks leased to MCT and uses their trailers.

I was thinking about trying out Domino's Pizza in Phoenix; I can get with them A.S.A.P. I understand it's very labor intensive work though but supposedly $70k + per year 4 day on/3 day off work week . Who knows ?

Well ya! Phoenix has em all!!

Be sure to look at domino thread...!!!

Also look at LTL....The good ones are all there!!! OD, ABF, YRC etc etc..Them guys make 28 an hour!! Feels real cool in heavy traffic when your on the clock!!!

I remember the domino guys sayin they would run teams and be expected to service 3 to 4 towns a shift...totally filling logbook up always, lots of misery getting into small freezers in the middle of the night, lots of stuff blocking your way always....ok money, but greuling and torturous..

How come you're up at 4 A.M. on Christmas day ? Lol

I've applied with all the typical LTL Carriers multiple times up there since I got back to Arizona in March. I have only ever received an interview from R+L Carriers and a call from ABF .. The reason I'm seriously considering Domino's is fact that I can start ASAP. It seems like there's a waiting list to get on with the other companies with the exception of Central Transport but their pay was really low relatively and I just didn't like the atmosphere .

I had a decent gig driving from Tucson to Blythe CA ,swapping trucks/trailers with drivers from Ontario CA and coming back to Tucson everyday for $200 per day but that went sour real quick ! ..

Ya I ran Tucson to Blythe myself LTL...A sleepy run!! Make it thru Phoenix then naptime till mile O...Use rumble strips as alarm clock!! LOL

Im up at 4 cause I run nights still, only in mining now, was supposed to run then cut off at last minute, so...My head all funny up like chuck!!! lol

Hard to peel 200 a day from tucson...

If yer in phoenix, you gotta push and pull out the extra stops, but im sure you could work anywhere from there...
I know an Ashley LTL guy real happy at 275 a day out of PHX..

ANyways, knock em dead kid!! ...Ltl's like advertising on INDEED...You see one , you gotta hop on it then, show up etc etc...all of the online processes are bs...hit a terminal on a day they need someone, your in!!

I know a couple propane guys,,,at 16 an hour to start 50 hrs a week full bennies...

They are happy...Always options....problem here is a million cdl's runnin around destroying wages by proxy...Lots of 12 dollar an hour guys here, saguaro trucking, harvey trucking, desert trucking etc etc...so, every terminal has a giant stack of apps, never to be touched again...

Centrals Terminal is pretty cool actually...decent trucks, the temp tm is a big Indian named Chief, totally cool guy...the city work is impossibly retarded and bs, the line haul is constant week after week!!, el paso or blythe...
Its a good terminal!....Buy a crappy truck, lease on, run the el paso line haul 2700 a week to ya...
They all just got a pay raise over there, blythe is 225 a night, el paso 275...for company drivers
Saia always hiring...which is suspicious to me
