I was browsing on Zillow, and thought I’d see what home prices were like in this state, and I was taken aback at how affordable many of the home prices were compared to where I live, which is a fairly low cost-of-living area to begin with (south Ga). And I don’t mean homes that are in bad areas (I could literally write a check for many of those), but even homes out in the country seem decently priced.
I’m well aware that WV is an impoverished state, and that while housing may be very affordable, finding a job or at least a job that pays worth a flip can be an issue (AL and MS are also similar). On indeed, there seem to be a decent amount of jobs that pay what I’m earning now, and some of them even more, especially the Hazmat jobs.
Does anyone reside in WV? What would you say the outlook is, depending on the area? I’m currently driving a tractor-trailer dump truck paving roads, and grossed $54k in 2023. I’m home every night, and gaining experience without having to be OTR. But if I could find somewhere that I can earn the same if not more than where I currently reside, but on much less living expenses, I’d be willing to relocate.
Edit: I see there’s a thread on this very subject.
Should I relocate for better driving opportunities?
There are job opportunities where I live, but they seem to be about the same as WV, where CoL is lower. That’s why I’d contemplate relocating (I don’t have immediate family).

West Virginia is about the best state right now for purchasing a home.
It's a beautiful state and the people aren't pretentious.Zonno Thanks this. -
Nitro, W.V. Not a place I would want to live. If a plant blows, you be g-o-n-e ! But yes, W.V. is cheap to buy live etc. Especially the towns where coal mining has fizzled out. No coal mining, people move out.
