I got the Lil Wil antenna and it's not working.. My CB will not calibrate with it my SWR is in the red portion of the meter.... I have dual wilson 2000's on my work truck and my radio calibrates no problem.. So I decided I would take apart the Lil Wil and check it out.. Well what I found is that one of the wires going from the going from the coil to the orange coil was broken off as well as one of the diodes/resisters was also burned out... So I am wondering if anyone know if this could be fixed... I don't know what the part number is because the part is burned so maybe someone knows what part I need to fix this... I don't wanna take it to a shop cause I don't wanna spend money on this antenna (for shop rates anyhow) cause I don't even use it... Just figured I would fix it if I can.. If not no worries...

So the wire near the bottom of picture 2 is suppose to be soildered on the part of picture number 1 by the diode that is burned out... That is my thinking on this...

I have taken pictures with my iphone so sorry for the quality I hope you get the point tho....

It is a 50 volt ceramic disc capacitor not a diode. Unless you know it's capacitance or enough of it is left to read it you cannot easily repair it. Outside of guessing at a value, reassembling and testing that is. Something to do if you are interested in learning or just bored. What it does is teach the manufacturer had a power rating on the antenna for a reason. If you must run too many watts through it you could after figuring out the value use a higher voltage silver mica for replacement. While remembering SM does heat and there is only so much capacitive grounding due to the diameter of the base therefore still not a good idea to use it for say a Texas Star 667V. If I had to guess I think I would start with around a 68 Pf 1KV capacitor.

Well that is why I was hoping if someone knows the part.. I don't know much about it so thanks for the info on it..... I would be running my Cobra 29 with a RFX-75 amp/final.... This antenna hasn't worked from the day I got it (before I modded radio) so I dunno what happened exactly..

So you would start with a 68 Pf 1KV cap... Would this be a ceramic disc or a silver mica??

    Thanks

I would use a cheap 50 volt disc at 20 watts max from the radio for measuring SWR, while experimenting and testing until I found the value that allows the antenna to tune correctly. Then I would replace it with a higher voltage higher quality part for the permanent repair. If the bottom is not correct you will lose the capacitance needed for ground. Meaning if you peeled things off the bottom to take it apart give thought to that when putting it back together. Also any other capacitors should be upgraded in ratings if you plan to run power.

What do you mean use a 50 volt disc from the radio??? I hope you don't mean take it from the radio itself...

I am hoping maybe someone with a Lil Wil antenna could take a look for me as to the value of the cap so I will know without testing.. Cause I won't really use this antenna so I don't wanna put money and time into fixing it.. I just wanna get the right part the first time fix it and either keep the antenna or sell it...

"What do you mean use a 50 volt disc from the radio?"

Would make more sense if you had not stripped "at 20 watts max" from that line.

I would have thought "for measuring SWR", would have clarified "at 20 watts max from the radio". Especially with "What it does is teach the manufacturer had a power rating on the antenna for a reason."

Put simply if you use a cheap 50 volt disc the antenna cannot take much as seen by the reason it is bad to begin with. As to where to get the capacitors I am not familiar with where you are nor who sells them around you. However I would not recommend you strip your radio especially if you had planned on using it.

I had a Lill Will but threw it away. Sorry. What I did was go get a magnetic base for a regular antenna, screwed a Wilson 5 inch shaft into it and slapped in on the roof of my pickup. Works ten times better then the Lill Will did.

If you can find the specs on the Cap, Radio shack has most of them on stock. But I think you might be better off upgrading the antenna slightly for the RFX moded cobra.

If you are looking for a magnetic type then I know that wilson does makes some magnetic models that are capable of handling a little more power. http://www.claysradioshop.com/antennas-magnetmount.htm

I am thinking the 500 or the 1000
