Looking for info on Lightning Transportation out of Hagerstown MD. Their webpage says they've been around since 70's and use only O/Os for Intermodal.
I was checking their BASIC (US DOT 326966), seemed to have a good score then saw only 120,000 VMT in 2012 with 221 PU and 221 drivers. Is there a connection between low VMT and O/Os? I'm curious about such low mileage?
I can't recall ever seeing the name Lightening on the road and I run in the same areas.
Comeback O/O's, have you seen Ligthning Transportation trucks on the road?

them being an O/O operated Outfit they may not run there own trucks under their own Authority, I am guessing this is what it is! I'm not an O/O but thought this might help! Good Luck.

I hope that u don't go to lightning trans. I ran with them for 5 years and their rates are low to keep you in their pocket. They will help you fix your truck but you won't bring any money home with their rates. I left them with 100 bucks in my pocket. I still have friends their who can't leave because they owe them so much money from the cheap rates.

I'm not an O/O yet, looking for a place to jump in.

They buy trucks and sell them to guys who want to be owner operators and lease guys on. I blew a bull gear in my motor and hAd to replace the motor. They offered to help and took it to the safety directors fathers shop who works for detroit diesel . I had a reman put in that cost 24000 but they charged 20 percent interest which made it 30000.

If you think, that was not reasonable, why would you agree to this arrangement & terms.
How many trucking companies loan that kind of money to an owner operator?
If you could get the job done elsewhere for less, why didn't you?

An owner operator is an independent contractor, in business for himself.
Times are tough, no O/O is getting rich.
Most importantly, are you still an O/O, are you making a lot better money?
If so, Is the company that you are leased to paying you more money (all things considered)?
Does your current company offer any assistance when you are down & don't have the money?Matt1924 Thanks this.
