Are there any states that will not allow a truck with a lift axle? Thinking about adding one on a straight truck to put more of a load on it. Don't know where the truck will or will not go to including Canada.

Lift axles are not legal ahead of the drive axles in Alberta, last I checked.

As far as I know you can have a lift axle installed on a truck in BC and Alberta but you cannot use it (ie must stay lifted). May want to double check that though and not just take my word on it.

A lift axle in Canada can’t have manual controls. For example if you had a lift axle it would have to be plumbed in so that when your bags on the drive axle hit a certain pressure it would automatically drop, which means you wouldn’t be able to run a steerable lift axle. If you have manual controls for it then it would need to be lifted once you got to the Canadian border.

This will give me a good point to start looking. Anyone know of any states that don't allow them?

I would imagine you can have drop axles in all the states. They don't care about axles. They only care about weight. I would imagine anyways.
CA and AZ are 2 that come to mind. 34 and 80. Don't know about the east side.
CA will do a heavy haul but I have noooo idea on the permits. I'm guessing not cheap either.
I know NV isn't cheap.Last edited: Aug 2, 2018

The weights hauled would all still be legal without permits. Company just doesn't want to wait the 8 months to have 3 trucks special ordered so they are thinking about buying some off a lot and adding the axles. Was even looking into putting a dead axle on it that does not have lift capability, they are harder to find than I thought that they would be.
