I was reading a thread and saw a Youtube video where a driver said he puts is license plate on the front of his truck because with a trailer on the hook the DOT technically can't read your plate. He also mentioned that when you pull into a scale the scanners on the entrance ramp need to read them. I have never been stopped or questioned by DOT but I still don't know if it's something people do. States like NC TN SC and others only give one plate per vehicle so does that mean I have to get another one. And what happens when I don't have my trailer on there will be no plate there. Sure to get stopped then. Anyone heard about this?
Thanks Guys

Call the DMV where you got your plates they will know

Colorado only issues one plate for a semi tractor, it goes on the front. Years back, I was stopped by a state trooper because I only had one plate, I pointed out that the state only issues one plate, not like cars, pickups and smaller CMVs that get two plates.

What kind of truck?
What I was told was that they needed to see it but my state tells me if it isn't a semi, it goes on the back. -
Depends on the State/Province.....In Quebec, they only issue one plate:
Tractor- plate on front
Straight truck- plate on back
Pick-up- plate on back -

Not sure about that one, but I'd think if you see it aimed at you coming in, it's likely reading the front plate...Will having no front plate displayed then get you pulled aside?....I don't know, but I'd speculate that if it's a class 8 tractor with no front plate displayed, it will.....A rig like yours, probably not, unless of course it's a slow day or they need to make quota....What does NC say about truck-trailer combos?.....Do they issue two plates for that type of operation?....
Where you at in NC, out towards Asheville or up around Boone?... -
If I lived in a rear-tag-only state, I would place it on the rear of the pickup truck as your state intended. It's not a semi tractor.
