I've been driving for a few years, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to subscribe to one of those services which represents you in court if you receive a ticket/moving violation?
Also, if you feel it is a good idea, where can I find a reputable company?
Legal representation

No, bad idea.........
-
no, stay away and save up your money then IF the need arises (and why should it if you are safe) then hire a lawyer in the area of the country you need one.
OR......join the OOIDA as they will have lawyers at your time of need, of course you still have to pay them, but at least they would be "recommended" by a trucking organization, which i do believe costs $45 per year. -
-
show me where i say "PRE-PAID LEGAL".....from OOIDA.....????
i said they have lawyers available......in FACT I TOO AM A MEMBER and WOULD NOT HAVE SAID this if it weren't true, in FACT RIGHT NOW i am LOOKING AT several ads for LAWYERS IN THE OOIDA MAGAZINE......which means THEY ARE AVAILABLE TO US......THAT ARE "RECOMMENDED" as they advertise in the OOIDA...
and i said, "YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM"......!!!!!!!
you wanna show me where i said OOIDA IS INVOLVED WITH PRE-PAID LEGAL.....??? -
Pre Paid legal is a big loss of your money! Yes some of them give you membership to big box stores and other crapola but when you look at the overall cost you have to ask why?
Unless you're a moron that has that lead foot like me or have no regard for the rules then by all means throw your money at them but it'll be better if you just put aside oh say $500 and if and when you get a ticket call the courthouse, ask if there is a lawyer they recommend or do an internet search and hire a lawyer this way. Unless you killed someone you do not have to show up for court. Just send the lawyer a check and he'll do what a lawyer does and pays your fine for you and if you send to much will send you a check with the balance.
OOIDA does not have "pre paid" BUT they have an extremely large list of lawyers nation wide and they can direct you to one in the area of your ticket.
Again as for a prepaid deal I'll let you in on just one of their sales pitches!
One came to our yearly safety meeting and during his pitch he pulls out that baseball cap and nice shiny sticker and begins to tell us that his "drivers" when they get pulled over put on the baseball cap and might have the sticker on the door of his truck and the officer sees these and turns around and walks away as he knows it's a waste of time to write a ticket because Ticket Buster will win the case! You could hear the chuckles coming from those of us with a few years under our belts! Rookies lined up!
The guys at the truck stops do about the same thing!
Do you think a cop that's sees a prepaid legal hat or sticker is going to leave? NOT after that 100' walk they just made in heat, cold, or wet weather and if his hat gets blown off you can pretty much bank on getting it! -
Rerun --
Perhaps you should re-read the OP. Subscribing to legal services (the OP's words) is joining a pre-paid legal operation.
Those ads in LandLine are just that. Ads. Doesn't mean those lawyers are available through OOIDA. The association will refer members to a law firm in Oklahoma City, which will then farm out a case. Call Tom and ask him. But you're right about the $45. -
