What I'd like to see is a clean discussion about the health insurance benefits with Knight. Let's not stray off topic again, please.

Do not answer buy your own insurance or just leave because you don't like the insurance they offer. This is for discussion of the insurance, the cost breakdown, and the benefits offered for it.

From how I read it, Knight puts in a set amount at the beginning of the year for it. After which, you are required to put 1k deductible in, just to be able to enjoy some benefits and not others. meds aren't part of anything, and my inhalers cost 200 out of pocket.

Does it cover emergency rooms? The way it reads I'd say no.

So how do we go about getting the company to offer us a better coverage? Who should we talk to? And why is this important to me? I'll tell you why, because I don't like changing jobs all the time. Just because I see something that looks better does not mean it is better. If the drivers were to get together and present their problems in a rational matter, things could change for the better.

Many of us are at the age where we might like the company we work for, so we are reluctant to just quit and move to another job. We want to see our company become a better company. I have no problems with knight, aside from the insurance policy they offer. So how do we go about changing that?

Trucking companies are currently reducing coverage, and increasing the cost.

A trend that is sure to spread.....

    Which is not unusual.

A item of concern though, is it being reduced evenly.

Meaning, officer and office staff being treated the same as drivers?

Not just trucking companies... most companies are reducing insurance coverage because of whats happening with healthcare and the government and I know we don't want to discuss that here. :) Wish it was like it was with the doc on Gunsmoke.

Years ago when I started working in the 70's, you had reasonable cost of insurance. Hospital and doctor costs did not bankrupt you.

In fact, I did not even have a question on any claim or denial till in 1990.

That is about the time that the costs seemed to be rising faster and that they were trying to cut their commitment.

Now, you hear about record profits and HUGE salaries to the bigwigs at the insurance companies and denied claims are rampant.

Yes, I too would like to see it return. My wife had a doctor when we married that only charged 20,00 for the office call. My last doctor visit to have blood pressure checked, which I can do myself, 276.00.

I've got a good old throw back doc that I see. If he doesn't write you a script or order lab work he doesn't charge you. When he does it's $85 for a visit. My sleep apnea doc is only $75 a visit. And people say it costs too much to live in Cali.

We pay near 1800 a month for a place in San Jose. Anywhere else 1800 a month is a house payment and the house in question is a large one with a large piece of land. We are planning on mooooving because the job market's not any better or worse in other states. >.> Her problem is she's got a good job despite her apparent lack of seniority so we might not go anywhere.

so... insurance is cutting back, so what should people do to get them to stop?

Yep, bay area is high $$$ to live in. I used to live in Santa Cruz.

Insurance is ran by private for profit companies. They will always try to maximize there profits. That means cutting cost and raising prices based on what the spreadsheets say will maximize those profits.

Which is why National Healthcare would be good. Because normally government programs are not for profit which helps many. NASA was a great program, thanks to them we got cell phones.
