I have to get my Horton fan clutch redone. Peterbilt recommendation was to use the Kit Master 9500 HP for my application. Said it had less parts and similar to redo. Problem was they didn’t have it in stock so I went with the genuine Horton kit which was a few dollars more, and felt more comfortable going genuine. Opinions are welcomed, that’s why I started this thread.

In my experience, Kit Masters is a good product and their rebuild kit outlasts original Horton.

I scrapped the Horton when the bearings went out and the fan started wobbling so hard it trashed my water pump. Put a viscous fan hub on there...lighter, simpler, and significantly cheaper. Been several years and no issues. I don't know why they like to over-engineer things like that when all we need is something simple that works.

We use a good bit of Kit Master products. Great stuff and they have a nice website and super great live customer service.

No. All I can tell you is that I got it from Mack, it bolted onto the water pump, and the fan bolted to it.

I was wondering what kind of motor you had that the fan could trash the water pump. That viscous clutch may work fine for your mack, but I would not want it on any cummins or cat, unless were talking a pickup engine.

Why not? It's a much simpler design...less moving parts...less to go wrong.

When the bearings in the horton fan clutch went out, the fan picked up a nasty wobble. The wobble is what took out the water pump. I started smelling antifreeze going down the road, pulled into a Walmart and popped the hood. Saw the fan wobbling and the water pump leaking. Pulled the fan off and topped off the system with water and it got me home. With the trouble-free operation of the viscous fan hub, I'd never spec a truck with a horton.

I am guessing you have never had a Mack MP motor with electronic viscous fan clutch?

If your driving that red 379?
I would have looked into the old Kysor fan clutch they are easy to adjust.

But never tried doing it my self.
