I have started my schooling at Kansas Truck Driving School in Wichita, KS. I'll be updating this thread with details about my experience.
Day 1
Filled out paper work and signed the Enrollment Agreement. Sent the students that needed physicals to the physical getting place.
They gave each of us the Kansas CDL handbook (2014 version, I already had download the revised 2016 version) and told us to study. They provided a laptop for us to take practice test with. We were told once we can master the practice test at a 90% or better then we can go the the DMV to get our CLP. I'm still getting a grasp on how the Students are divided here. It seem it's just divided between those that have their CLP and those that don't. Once we get our CLP we will join the others. I'm not sure how they handle having students start at different times.
A recruiter showed up today. Man those guys are good salesmen. I'm refraining from giving the company's name, not sure if that would violate any rules etc.

Get those applications moving. Probably won't see any recruiters from the companies I gave you. Having some good job offers on the table is a good motivator to do well in school.

Day 2
Went to the DMV right away in the morning and got my CLP. Joined the other group of students. They gave us a paper log book that needs to be filled out every day, a copy J. J. Keller® Tractor-Trailer Driver Training Manual, which must be returned, and two other books that we get to keep. I can't remember currently what the titles were. Shortly after the start of the day we all went out side and the students that were father along went through the pre-trip on the truck one student per section style, they offered me a section but I passed and just wanted to observe today. After all I did pretty much skip the first few days due to studying the cdl manual on my own prior to starting. After the pre-trip they practiced backing procedures. Once back in the class room working in through the manual is a work at your own pace style but the students that start the same day tend to keep pace with each other.
The instructor is great, laid back and friendly. So far I like his teaching style. Over all I think this school is great and I'd recommend them to anyone.born&raisedintheusa and Chinatown Thank this. -
Got any new updates on this? I'm looking into financing through kansas works and they told me they will pay the entire cost of this school. What else could you tell me about it?

Not sure what else to add. I'll answer any questions that I can.born&raisedintheusa and trucker3rdgen Thank this. -

How's the instructor/student ratio in the truck?

2 students are going to the dmv on friday.
2 maybe 3 will be going the week after
3 maybe 4 will be going the week after
etc.
They start classes each week which is basically just having new students start so the students are all at different levels. Which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing.
If you can I'd suggest trying to get them to start up the night classes. same cost, 10 weeks / half days. but the student to instructor ratio will be better. They need 2 students to start up the night classes. I've over-herd them talking on the phone and it sounds like they might be close to starting the night classes.
