I've been with Kane as a company driver for a little over a year. Looking for anything specific?

    PowerPullin Thanks this.

How do you like it? Any reason why they are always looking for drivers? Just makes me wonder. What is your schedule like? Thanks

I'm happy at Kane. I'm full time local (350-500 miles / day), and I get to work the hours and the loads that suit me best. My paycheck looks like I want it to, and there's never an issue if I need time off during business hours to take care of personal business. I typically start my day between 1 and 5am, and am back home within the 14 hour window. I'm usually home by 6pm on Friday afternoon, and have the whole weekend off unless I choose to work on Saturday or Sunday.

They are always looking for PART TIME drivers primarily. The turnover is on the part time side. Not many full time drivers leave, and the ones that leave typically come back within a month or two.

The issues that I see are primarily equipment related. For starters, empty trailers are hard to come by, so a lot of time is wasted trying to locate one. There's no central drop yard for empties, so sometimes we have to cycle through six different yards, and get out and open doors to find an empty. Fortunately, Kane will pay an hourly rate if an unreasonable amount of time is spent trying to find an empty trailer to take to the shipper to replace the loaded trailer that you pick up. You're also off the hook on making the delivery appointment time if an empty is not readily available.

Many of their tractors are junk - International ProStars with the MaxxFarce engines and auto shift transmissions, and some older beat up Kenworth day cabs that will rattle your fillings out of your teeth. They're slowly rotating out the older equipment and replacing it with new.

Drivers slip seat, so that's a hassle. It's always fun to plan for a 15 minute pre-trip when you begin your day, only to find that the truck you have been assigned has been left with an empty fuel tank, empty washer fluid, broken mirror bracket, headlight out, etc. We have a shop that works a night shift, so it's a simple matter to park the tractor in the dead line area at the end of the day and write up the issues on the DVIR so that the truck will be ready to go in the morning. Kane won't penalize the drivers that habitually leave broken trucks, so that's one thing that we have to deal with when slip seating.

    Hope that helps.

    Windsmith,
Do you go to NYC everyday or do they have other runs? I'm looking to lease on if I was to work for them. Any idea how the o/o's are doing? Thanks

I run NYC as often as I can, but I can't remember having had a full 5 day week in the city. You'll do better as a company driver once you learn how to work their system for mutual advantage. Company drivers will start out slip seating, usually day cabs. Last week I had a couple of city deliveries, and one 625 mile day, so you have options.

I don't think the money is there for the O/O side, compared to what the company drivers can earn.

I'm thinking of applying with kane also. I have a buddy who works as a driver for the Scranton place. I'm just not to keen on driving NYC. I recently left the beer delivery driving industry (brutal). Tiredof being treated like I'm a POS by some little ### working as a reciever at a grocery store. Getting too old for it.

NYC deliveries are not required; they just want to know that you can handle it if they get in a bind and ask you to take one.

Cool. I always see them advertising for drivers. Is the turnover that bad there? I'd like to land a local gig if possible.

Turnover is higher with part time drivers as expected. Most full time drivers have been there for years though.
