I'm not talking about "real" loads like 5 skids of something but stuff like hauling somebody's dresser or mattress 200 miles?
Just some advice don't be on shipping wars !

Yeah but the show would have, your not really thinking ANYONE who drives for a living would do some of the dumb #### they do and allow it on camera do you? Not a chance, lots of it is staged just for ratings, sure i watch it from time to time but i never once thought it was real, and yes i was on uship and got a few loads. More trouble then its worth. Mostly lowest common denominater freight hauling

SHO-TYME and TwinStickPeterbilt Thank this.

I was actually looking on that site. The veteran users hate shipping wars for the very reason that they are being underbid by amateurs (kinda like myself, LoL, except I at least understand Cost/Benefit Analysis and Profit).

To Sho-Tyme,
Do you have any of those rubber dog turds for sale? They are a hoot at parties!

After being unemployed for several months with UI exhausted and now leeching off family, I was drawn to this site because I was looking at various self-employment opportunities. A trucker I am not and never will be as the vision in my right eye will not pass the DOT health screening, thus I would forever be severely limited in what I could drive and what I could haul.
I looked at uShipDotCom, did some research on shipping/shippers, implemented a lot of common sense and contemplated.
I found bids and calculated costs for fuel and upkeep based on a 17 mpg sedan (my personal vehicle) and was shocked to discover that many of these bids are well under cost, even when these costs were calculated with extremely conservative estimates with next to 0% overhead; and these overly-conservative estimates certainly would not account for insurance, licenses, maintenance, oil changes, tire wear, yadda yadda yadda.
My conclusions are that most of these bidders MUST be illegal or stupid or all of the above; and that uShipDotCom is not good for either customers nor providers.
Reality-TV and scam artists are devastating to every industry they touch; and now that they have touched the shipping industry, in 10 years, after the dust settles, I fear that I'll be paying horrible prices to giant companies to move a piece of furniture across town; because that is all that could survive the onslaught. -
In all fairness most of those loads are "side loads" or extras to help off set a run to a low freight area, at least thats what i did. No ones going to haul 1 car or piano or whatever halfway across the country. My problem was whrn somthing would work out timing space exc exc the shiper always wanted to wait to the last min to hope for a cheaper hauler, i would have to say now or never i have a deadline to keep, and more times than not it was .. well i can wait a few more days ill see if anyone else wants to do it cheeper. Ah well on to the next load. So i quit bothering. Its not really good or bad persay as most of it is privite people trying to move a car or a horse or whatever, mostly stuff that would never get to a big truck anyway. The hot shot drivers are the ones most affected by it, and as they say no such thing as bad press....

I know one area down around Houston they check as many hotshots as they can because of that. People not having the right stuff and DOT writing tickets for it has been going on forever.
