Just replaced the super single Bridgestone Greatec drivers. Did not like the way those tires wear at all. I will be interested to see how these XDN2's perform, they come highly recommended.
I lucked out as far as what I ended up putting out money wise. I had already decided that I was going to go with them last week. I opened an Owner Operator Michelin Advantage Account last month. Even with the Advantage discount those tires are still over $900 a piece.
On Wednesday I got red lighted on a weigh scale. Officer came out and thumped my front passenger drive tire. He told me to park and bring in paperwork. Turns out I had run over something and had a slow leak resulting in the tire only having about 55 lbs when he pressure poked it. The guy let me go on 30 miles where there are two truck stops. He could have put me oos, but I told him I'd milk the ride and keep an eye on it.
Nice guy!...
Anyways, I made it to the truck stop. By the time they pulled me, almost an hour had past. Turns out they wouldn't try and repair it and didn't have a used super available. They didn't stock Michelin XDN2 either.
So, I drove out of the parking lot into the next parking where there was a Love's. The tech asked me what I needed and told him a used 445/50/22.5. He pointed over to a what looked like a brand new tire he had just unmounted from a new truck.
Guess the new truck had a tire failure on the highway and Love's road service brought out the only new 445/50/22.5 they had on the rack and put it on. The mega fleet company didn't want that tire because it didn't match, made Love's order in a matching tire and change it out.
Would you believe it if I told you it was a Michelin XDN2 445/50/22.5? LOL!
I asked the kid, "what do you want for that tire?"
"What are you thinking?" he asked.
"No, what are you thinking?" I asked trying not to show any emotion
"How about $250?" he said.
"$250 dollars?" I said. "Hmmm... well... okay, that sounds fair I guess...put it on..."
Sometimes you just get lucky and happen to be in the right place at the right time as I ended paying an effective rate of $772 per tire before labor.
Just had Michelin XDN2's Installed...

So what was their reason for not repairing it?
That is a problem with super singles, if you don't carry spares and have a flat you're pretty well stuffed, especially if you're in the middle of nowhere.Oxbow Thanks this. -
The weight on the tire from losing air forced some cord to be exposed. Too be honest, I really didn't want to waste time having it repaired anyways as I had milked that set. As it turned out, it all worked out in my best interest anyways.
Interestingly enough, in 7 years of running supers, that's the first time I've encountered that. -
My experience with the wide based xdn2 over the last 700k or so has been good.
I run 105 psi in them. I rotate every 100k,
First time front to back, 2nd time an X pattern, then front to back. I got 365,000 out of first set. Checked my tire psi 2 times a week. I generally drive 70 to 75 mph sometimes 80 mph. Good tires in wet/ snowy conditions.Oxbow and Scooter Jones Thank this. -

As a follow-up, I had Centramatics installed on all three axles as well. We'll see how they work out as far as life extension, etc.

I had them on all 3 axles at one time years ago. I tossed them away. They don't really do anything for the drives. Dynamic balance media inside your tires is the only way to go you'll get perfect balance and wear.

My company uses the Michelin XDN2 in North Idaho here and they are absolute garbage for traction. In snow and icy conditions the worst traction I’ve ever experienced. Will utilize an automatic transmission and you have to backpedal to keep from spinning the tires on wet pavement. I had to chain up On 2 inches of snow, and that side bite sucks as well, ### end came out from under me at 40 miles an hour on slush.Oxbow Thanks this. -
These XDN2's are performing very well.
I've put 140k miles on them so far. Rotated front to back @ 100k. No shoulder wear whatsoever. I'll rotate them again side to side at 200k
From the looks of it, they should easily go 300k miles.Oxbow Thanks this. -
A little data on my XDN2 tire performance.
27/32 new.
18/32 current
138,000 miles to date
9/32 used to date
15,333 miles per 1/32
Not too shabby.BigHossVolvo, Oxbow, daf105paccar and 1 other person Thank this.
